Vibration at idle
- You notice
- A buzz through the seat, dashboard or steering wheel, sometimes stronger in Drive or with the AC on.
- We compare
- Cold/warm running, engine smoothness and how the mounts isolate the cabin.
Cabin vibration at idle, a clunk when selecting Drive or a confirmed leaking mount? Our independent VW workshop in Al Quoz 4 checks the cause, matches the correct engine or gearbox mount and provides a written quote before replacement.
Replacement planning guides: AED 1,100–2,200.
Across the model examples below. Mount type, quantity and access determine the job price.
Heavy banging or severe engine movement? Stop safely and call before continuing.

These model-based guides help plan the repair. The exact engine, gearbox, failed mount and parts choice matter more than the model badge alone.
Indicative replacement-work budgets, not a per-mount tariff or a complete-set package. Diagnosis, parts, quantities, fitting, required extra work, VAT and applicable warranty terms are itemised in the written quote.
The assessment and any charge are agreed before testing. No parts are replaced until you approve the repair.
Notice when the vibration or knock appears. These clues guide the checks; they do not identify a failed mount on their own.

Engine and gearbox mounts work together. A lower torque support is often called a pendulum or dogbone mount; it controls powertrain movement rather than doing the same job as every upper mount.
Rubber support and internal fluid damping help isolate engine vibration. A failed sealed unit normally needs replacement, with the correct damping characteristics retained. It is not repaired by a power-steering or engine-oil top-up.
Inspect the rubber-metal bond, bushes, brackets and mounting points. A deteriorated torque support can allow excess movement even when an upper mount appears sound. The actual fitted design decides the replacement assembly.
Some applications vary their damping through a control system. Check the relevant electrical or vacuum connections and commanded operation as applicable. Replacing that design with a basic mount can change refinement.
See ZF’s explanation of conventional, hydraulic and controlled mounts.
A mount can transmit vibration from an otherwise healthy engine. It can also be blamed for a misfire, exhaust contact or driveline fault. Physical checks and relevant VW data help separate them.
Compare cold and warm behaviour, idle speed, AC load, selected gear and recent repairs. A controlled workshop assessment checks whether powertrain movement is abnormal.
Assess each accessible engine/gearbox mount, torque support, bracket and fastening. Look for damage, leakage, collapse and contact marks. Check surrounding hoses, wiring and exhaust clearance where movement could have caused damage.
Use fault codes and live data where relevant. A petrol misfire needs ignition and engine-running diagnosis; load-related shaking may require CV-joint or drive-shaft assessment. Neither is automatically cured by a new mount.

Hydraulic mounts can be fitted to Golf and Jetta, but the correct part depends on the generation, engine and gearbox. We match the specification before ordering.

Exact generation and powertrain matched by VIN.

Engine, transmission and mount revision checked.
Model references only. Other Volkswagen variants are matched to their own specification.
Engine-side, gearbox-side or lower support; the current part reference, bracket, orientation and control connector.
TSI or TDI, manual, automatic or DSG. GTI/R, 4MOTION and factory options can change the application.
Tell us about tuning, solid mounts, polyurethane inserts or recent clutch/engine work. Stiffer supports can transmit more vibration.
Compare genuine Volkswagen and a named suitable supplier where available. The correct design and damping come first; “OEM” alone does not establish equivalence. Hybrid and ID. motor supports need their own application check.
The aim is to restore correct support and reduce the confirmed mount-related vibration. We explain any separate running or driveline fault that also needs attention.

Identify one mount or multiple failed supports, the selected parts and the work needed for access. Shared access can make combined repairs sensible, but healthy mounts are not automatically added to the bill.
Support the powertrain with suitable equipment and follow the applicable VW removal, positioning and tightening procedure. Replace fasteners where specified and restore disturbed brackets, hoses or control connections.
Check clearance and the original idle/load complaint after installation, with a safe road assessment where appropriate. Required settings or geometry checks depend on what was disturbed; neither coding nor alignment is an automatic extra for every mount.
Keep the repair understandable. We list the parts on the quote, explain the findings at handover and return old parts on request. If vibration remains, we investigate fitment, installation and other causes rather than assume every new mount needs a long settling period.
Heavy banging, severe shaking or powertrain contact with nearby parts needs prompt assessment. Stop safely if there is a burning smell, significant fluid loss or a flashing engine warning with power loss.
Describe what changed before setting off. Assistance or recovery arrangements, availability and charges are confirmed separately.

Our existing model-based planning guides are Golf AED 1,200–1,800, Passat AED 1,100–1,600, Arteon AED 1,300–1,900 and Tiguan AED 1,500–2,200. These are indicative replacement-work budgets, not a per-mount tariff or a full-set package. Jetta and other variants need a VIN-based quote. The estimate identifies the mount, quantity, parts, fitting, assessment, required extra work, VAT and applicable warranty terms before approval.
It may, but shaking at idle does not identify a failed mount by itself. We check the fitted mounting system, rubber condition, collapse or separation and any mount-fluid loss, alongside engine running quality and contact with nearby parts. A misfire or an exhaust touching the body requires a different correction. Model year, engine and gearbox determine the correct mount.
A failed sealed hydraulic mount is normally replaced with the correct assembly; topping up a vehicle fluid reservoir will not restore its internal damping. We first establish that the residue comes from the mount rather than an engine leak above it. A damaged bracket, fastening or control connection is assessed separately from failure inside the mount.
Not automatically. We inspect the complete support system and identify which mount or torque support has failed. One replacement can be appropriate when the others remain serviceable. Several worn mounts or shared access may justify combined work, but the quote states each part and the reason. The matching-pair rule for some suspension parts is not a blanket rule for every engine mount.
We explain genuine Volkswagen and named suitable supplier-brand options where available. The part number, revision, engine/gearbox application, hydraulic damping and any control connection matter. A mount that bolts into place is not necessarily an equivalent comfort specification. We list the selected part on your quote; availability is established for the job.
A passive mount does not automatically require ECU coding or wheel alignment. Controlled mounts and any disturbed systems follow the vehicle-specific test or setup procedure. Alignment is considered if geometry-affecting parts or the subframe are disturbed. A new persistent vibration should be rechecked for fitment, installation and other causes rather than dismissed as something that always needs to settle.
Access, mount quantity, parts availability and any additional faults determine the collection estimate. We agree the assessment and explain the repair timing once the findings are known. The written quote records the applicable parts and workmanship terms for your job. Our Al Quoz 4 workshop opens Monday–Saturday, 9am–7pm; these hours do not imply round-the-clock recovery.
A phone description cannot establish that the car is safe. Heavy banging, marked engine movement, contact with other components, a burning smell, fluid loss or severe shaking needs a safe stop and assistance before continuing. A flashing engine warning with power loss can indicate a separate urgent running fault. Call with the symptoms before setting off; recovery arrangements and charges are confirmed separately.
Send your model, year, engine and when the vibration happens. Our Al Quoz 4, Dubai workshop opens Monday–Saturday, 9am–7pm. We agree the checks and quote the confirmed replacement before approval.
