Volkswagen Tie Rod Replacement in Dubai

Loose steering or a knock when turning? We inspect the inner tie rods and outer track-rod ends, replace the worn parts and arrange the alignment your Volkswagen needs.

Outer-end guide: AED 200–500 per side. Alignment is separate. Get a written parts-and-work quote before approving the repair.

Budget for the whole repair

Compare the same joint, quantity and finishing work. A price for one outer end is different from an inner rod, a complete side or both sides.

These are planning guides, not a fixed workshop tariff. The outer-end range follows our steering-service guide; alignment follows our wheel-alignment guide. Your quote itemises the selected part, labour, hardware, alignment and VAT. Seized adjusters, impact damage, rack repairs and required calibration change the total.

Inner rod or outer end?

A tie rod carries movement from the steering rack to the wheel. The two joints do different jobs, so the repair must identify the worn section.

  4. 04Outer track-rod endBall joint at the wheel knuckle

Outer track-rod end replacement

The wheel-side ball-and-socket joint lets the linkage move with the steering and suspension. Excessive play, a damaged stud or a contaminated joint can require a new end.

A torn dust boot needs assessment: covering a worn joint with new rubber does not remove the wear.

Inner tie rod replacement

The inner axial joint connects the rod to the rack. We check the joint separately from rack movement, and examine the bellows, clamps and threaded connection.

A sound rack does not automatically need replacing because its inner joint has worn. Repairability depends on the fitted assembly.

What changed in the steering?

Tell us when the symptom appears. Similar noises can come from several parts; we locate the movement before recommending replacement.

Free play or wandering
Inspect inner and outer joints, rack mounts and steering connections. The wheel should not change direction through unwanted joint movement.
Knock when changing direction
Trace the sound while checking joint play. Control-arm ball joints, drop links and top mounts can also knock.
Pulling or uneven tread
Check tyre pressures, condition, geometry and worn chassis joints. A wear pattern alone cannot identify a failed tie rod.
Shaking at road speed
Check wheels, tyres and linkage condition. See our Volkswagen vibration assessment if the cause is still unclear.

Replace what the findings justify

A joint, an assembly or the rack?

One joint or complete side

Replace the affected end when the remaining rod, threads and joint are serviceable. A bent rod, seized adjustment or wear at both joints can make a complete side the appropriate choice.

Genuine or suitable OEM parts

Compare the named part, fitment, price and warranty terms. The VIN, generation, steering rack specification and left/right position matter; a Golf, Jetta or Tiguan badge alone is not a part number.

Rack repair only when indicated

Internal rack play, damaged mounts, hydraulic leaks or electric-assist faults need their own assessment. Our steering repair service covers the wider system.

From inspection to a checked repair

Our independent Al Quoz 4 workshop gives you the findings and written quote first. Old parts can be returned on request.

  1. 01

    Locate the play

Inspect both sides, observe each joint under movement and check boots, rack security and impact damage. Review related suspension components where the findings point.

  2. 02

    Match the repair

Identify the correct part and quantity. Explain any boot, clamp or fastener replacement, seized threads and additional work before you approve.

  3. 03

    Fit to the vehicle procedure

Use suitable removal tools and specified tightening instructions. Protect the rack and bellows, and replace single-use fixings where required.

  4. 04

    Align and verify

Check remaining play, measure geometry and set the permitted adjustments. Check steering centring and the original complaint during suitable post-repair testing.

Finish the steering job

Why alignment comes after replacement

Tie-rod length affects toe: whether the wheels point slightly towards or away from each other when viewed from above.

Measure after the play is repaired

Counting turns during removal only gives an approximate starting position. Accurate Volkswagen wheel alignment requires serviceable joints, correct tyre pressures and the appropriate vehicle settings.

Check the steering centre and electronics

Keep the rack and steering wheel centred as specified. Steering-angle basic settings and any camera/radar calibration depend on the model, equipment and manufacturer procedure; they are not automatically part of every joint replacement.

Geometry cannot restore damaged tread. Any tyre replacement is a separate decision after the cause of wear has been assessed.

Your Volkswagen, correctly matched

Send the model and year

We assess tie-rod concerns on Volkswagen hatchbacks, saloons, SUVs and vans. Parts availability and repair method are checked against your exact vehicle.

Golf, GTI, Polo, Jetta
Generation, rack type and left/right joint determine the part.
Passat, Arteon, Tiguan, T-Roc
Confirm chassis and steering equipment before comparing assemblies.
Touareg, Teramont and vans
Use the VIN and build specification; do not assume smaller-VW fitment or pricing.

Describe a recent impact or previous repair. A diagnosis sheet or part number helps us compare the proposed work. Not sure the tie rod is the cause? Our guide to the signs of a worn VW tie rod explains how it is told apart from other front end faults.

Tie rod replacement questions

Costs, safe assessment, parts and the checks that complete the repair.

How much does Volkswagen tie rod replacement cost in Dubai?

Our existing steering-service guide is AED 200–500 for one outer end, including the part and fitting. This is a planning estimate, not a fixed tariff. Inner rods, complete assemblies and vehicle-specific parts need a separate quote. Allow separately for alignment; our four-wheel alignment guide is AED 250–450. Your written quote identifies the parts, fitting, alignment and VAT treatment before approval.

Do I need inner tie rods, outer ends or a complete assembly?

The inner axial joint connects to the steering rack; the outer track-rod end connects to the steering knuckle at the wheel. We inspect movement at each joint, the protective boots and the adjustment threads. An outer end can be replaced on its own when the inner joint is serviceable. Damage or wear in both sections can justify an assembly.

Should both sides be replaced together?

Both sides should be inspected, but replacement is based on condition. One worn joint does not automatically justify four new joints or a new rack. If several joints are worn, a combined quote can show the parts quantity, shared labour and one alignment operation so you can compare the complete job.

Can I drive with a worn or loose tie rod?

A tie rod is a steering connection. Severe looseness, a suspected detached joint or difficulty controlling the vehicle means stop safely and arrange recovery. For a newly noticed knock or tyre-wear concern, contact the workshop promptly for assessment. A phone description cannot establish that the car is safe to drive.

Is wheel alignment necessary after replacement?

Yes. Replacing or adjusting an inner or outer tie rod changes the effective steering-link length and can change toe. Counting threads only gives an approximate starting position. Measure and adjust the geometry after mechanical faults are repaired. Steering-angle basic settings or assistance-system calibration are added only when the vehicle procedure requires them.

Will a new tie rod stop steering vibration or uneven tyre wear?

It can resolve movement caused by that failed joint, but those symptoms have other causes. Wheel imbalance, tyre damage, a worn control-arm joint, wheel bearing or rack mounting may need separate attention. Alignment does not repair a loose joint, and replacing a joint cannot restore tread already worn away.

How long will the repair take, and what warranty applies?

A serviceable outer end is a different job from a seized inner joint or damaged rack assembly. We give a completion plan after inspection, fitment and parts availability are checked. The written quotation sets out the selected part and applicable parts and labour warranty terms; there is no automatic same-day or universal warranty promise.

What should I send when requesting a quote?

Send the VW model, year and VIN privately to the workshop, plus the symptoms and when they happen. Mention a recent kerb impact, previous steering work or an inspection report. If you have a quoted part number, include it. We identify the side, inner or outer position and required alignment before you approve the repair.
