Volkswagen glass repair and replacement costs

Start with a budget for the work you need. Repair and replacement have different scopes; a camera-calibration charge is not a replacement price.

Indicative AED budgets, not fixed packages. Exact glass, fitting and associated work are priced in your written quotation.
Work and quantityPlanning range
One eligible chip repairLocal resin repair after damage assessment; no replacement glass.AED 150 to 350
OEM-supplier front windscreenOne compatible pane with normal removal, bonding and fitting; special features and calibration priced separately.AED 1,500 to 3,500
Genuine Volkswagen front glassOne VW-branded pane with standard fitting; model, availability and equipment affect the quote.AED 2,500 to 4,500
Rear window replacementIndicative range for replacement; the matched pane, fitting and any extras are identified in your quote. Specialist applications can cost more.AED 800 to 2,500
Required front-camera calibrationAdditional to glass fitting where the vehicle procedure requires it; arrangement confirmed before work.AED 400 to 1,000
Equipment matters more than the model name alone. Heated, acoustic, solar-control, HUD and camera-compatible glass can exceed these standard budgets. We confirm the actual part and any additional work before approval; the lowest range does not apply to every Volkswagen.

Volkswagen rear window replacement

Shattered rear glass, a cracked back window or loose glazing? We identify the correct pane, assess the opening and quote replacement with the fittings your Volkswagen needs.

Keep the rear-glass functions

Correct pane and body style
Match the VIN/application, shape, tint and mounting. A hatchback tailgate, saloon rear screen and convertible roof use different assemblies.
Heating and aerial connections
Match the heated demister grid, terminals and integrated aerial where fitted. A heating fault alone needs circuit checks before replacing intact glass.
Wiper, washer and surrounding trim
Retain the correct wiper opening, seals and fittings where equipped. Damaged clips, trim, wiring or a distorted tailgate are identified separately.

From broken glass to handover

  1. 01
    Remove and clean

Protect the cabin and paint, remove damaged glazing and accessible fragments, then inspect the aperture and mounting surfaces.

  2. 02
    Fit the matched replacement

Use the correct bonding or sealing method. Genuine or suitable named supplier options are compared where available; convertible roof attachments need a separate assessment.

  3. 03
    Check and release

Check sealing and applicable heating, aerial, wiper and washer functions. Collection follows the installed system's release requirements and completion of the agreed checks.

Broken glass is different from a demister fault. Shattered toughened rear glass needs replacement, rather than front-screen resin repair. We identify the glass type before recommending work. Intact glass with a leak or demister fault needs diagnosis; a stuck rear-door window is a separate mechanism repair. Keep people and pets clear of fragments and call before moving a vehicle with loose glass.

Choose the right work

Repair the chip or replace the screen?

A local chip may be repairable. A spreading crack or damage affecting critical vision may need replacement. Inspection confirms the right option for your glass.

01Keep suitable glass

Assess for chip repair

  • Damage: a small, localised break confined to the outer layer may qualify.
  • Checks: depth, position, contamination, number of breaks and the driver’s or camera’s view.
  • Result: resin can stabilise eligible damage and improve clarity; a visible mark may remain.

Bullseye, star and combination chips are assessed individually. A photo helps with initial advice; inspection checks for hidden inner-layer damage and edge cracks.

02Replace unsuitable glass

Assess for a new screen

  • Damage: long or spreading cracks, edge damage or multiple substantial breaks.
  • Checks: inner-layer damage, delamination, distorted vision and camera interference.
  • Result: a compatible replacement pane, correctly fitted with the required equipment checks.

Front windscreens normally use laminated glass to help retain broken material. That construction does not remove the need to assess a cracked screen.

The crack’s position, depth and spread guide the repair-or-replacement assessment.

Do not drive with an obstructed view

If the glass is displaced, heavily fractured or obscures your view, stop safely and arrange an assessment and suitable recovery. Do not press on the damage to test its strength.

Prompt assessment may preserve an eligible chip-repair option. We explain why the pane can or cannot be retained: resin repair, scratch treatment and replacement solve different problems.

Call for guidance

Choose glass that matches your Volkswagen

The windscreen is part of the visibility and sensor system. The right replacement preserves the functions your vehicle actually has.

Replacement windscreen pane with shaped glass and a dark perimeter
Replacement glass must match the screen shape, mounting points and fitted features.

Match every fitted feature

Camera and mirror mounts
The camera bracket, viewing area and rear-view mirror attachment must match. A pane that fits the opening can still be wrong for the equipment.
Rain and light sensor
The correct sensor window, mounting and optical coupling pad or gel are needed. Air bubbles or poor contact can affect automatic wiper operation.
Head-up display (HUD)
A HUD-equipped car needs the correct optical glass. An unsuitable pane can produce a doubled or distorted projected image.
Acoustic and solar-control layers
Sound-reducing interlayers and heat-control coatings are distinct features. Retain the required specification rather than choosing by colour or thickness alone.
Heating and electrical connections
Heated glass, camera-area heating and integrated aerials apply only where fitted. Connector type and routing are checked before ordering.
Shape, surround and finish
Glass curvature, ceramic border, encapsulation, tint band and trim attachment affect fit and finish. A model-year label alone does not identify the correct pane.

Genuine Volkswagen glass

A VW-branded replacement ordered for the required application. This is the clear choice when the specified repair procedure or the agreed parts requirement calls for genuine glass. The quotation identifies the part, not just the word “original”.

Suitable OEM-supplier glass

A named glass-manufacturer option where compatible and permitted for the vehicle. An OEM-supplier name does not establish that every pane has the same features or approval as the factory item. We match the part number and equipment before presenting an alternative.

Your VIN, model year, body style and factory equipment codes help resolve the application. Existing glass markings and photos support the check, but an earlier replacement may itself have been incorrect. We identify the required specification rather than copying an unsuitable pane.

Cameras, rain sensors and ADAS

The windscreen can carry equipment for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Each fitted system needs the correct glass, attachments and checks.

Camera alignment follows the vehicle procedure

A forward-facing camera behind the mirror can support Lane Assist, traffic-sign recognition and other functions. Replacing its windscreen can change its relationship to the road.

  1. 01

    Confirm the requirement

Identify the Volkswagen procedure and calibration arrangement before approval. A fault-code reset does not establish correct alignment.

  2. 02

    Complete the specified setup

Static calibration uses a controlled setup and targets; dynamic calibration uses specified driving conditions. Some procedures combine them. Tyre pressures, loading, vehicle position and geometry are addressed where required.

  3. 03

    Review the result

Complete the required diagnostic checks and explain the calibration result, repaired functions and any remaining issue at handover.

Rain and light

Automatic wiper checks

Check the sensor mounting, optical pad or gel, connections and operation. Mirror electronics and heating connections also need their own checks; aiming an ADAS target does not check automatic wipers.

Camera and radar

Separate systems

Adaptive cruise or emergency-braking functions may also use radar mounted elsewhere. Glass work does not automatically require radar or control-module replacement.

Warnings and results

Investigate an incomplete check

A warning or unsuccessful calibration needs investigation. Bracket position, optical compatibility, wiring or an existing fault can affect completion. A clear dashboard alone is not proof of calibration.

What replacement involves

Good fitting protects the body opening, creates the correct bond and restores the equipment around the glass. The job is assessed and quoted as a complete installation.

Work around the lower windscreen and wiper mounting
The wipers, lower screen and surrounding fittings need careful handling during replacement.
The bond is a safety component. Modern bonded glass relies on the specified glazing adhesive and preparation. Decorative outer mouldings do not replace the structural adhesive joint.
  1. 1

    Protect and document

Check the damage, surrounding paint, trim, sensors and any existing leaks or warnings. Protect the cabin, dashboard and painted surfaces, then record the agreed glass and work before removal.

  2. 2

    Remove without hiding damage

Remove the necessary wipers, cowl or trim and cut out the old pane using a suitable method. Inspect the body opening, also called the aperture or pinch weld, for corrosion, previous damage or poor earlier bonding.

  3. 3

    Prepare the bonding surfaces

Prepare the retained adhesive, paint and glass to the selected system and vehicle procedure. Use the specified cleaner, activator or primer where required. Corrosion or structural damage is separately assessed before fitting continues.

  4. 4

    Bond and position the pane

Apply the specified polyurethane glazing adhesive and set the screen in the correct position. Follow product requirements for bead shape, working time and conditions. Refit the correct mouldings, clips and serviceable associated components.

  5. 5

    Refit, verify and release

Restore mirror and sensor attachments, wipers and washer operation. Complete the required leak, visibility, diagnostic and camera checks. Release follows the applicable adhesive drive-away requirement and completion of the agreed work.

If removal exposes rust, a distorted opening or damaged fittings, we document the finding and explain the revised work before proceeding. A damaged roof edge or A-pillar needs a separate Volkswagen body repair assessment; it is not concealed under extra adhesive.

Leaks and noise need a cause

Replacing an undamaged screen is not the automatic answer to water ingress or a whistle at speed. Tell us if the concern started after an earlier glass or body repair.

Water entering the cabin
A wet headlining or footwell is not proof that the windscreen seal has failed. The source can be the glass bond, body seams, scuttle drainage, door seals or sunroof drains. We trace entry before selecting resealing or replacement.
Wind noise after an earlier fit
Check glass position, mouldings, clips and adjacent trim. A visible gap and a failed adhesive bond are different findings. Applying an external bead without establishing the cause can leave the underlying problem unresolved.
Scratches, haze or distorted vision
Wiper damage, surface deposits, glass distortion and separation between laminated layers need different treatment. Heavy polishing in a critical viewing area can change optical quality; deep damage or delamination can require replacement.

For water tracing that points above the windscreen rather than through its bond, our Volkswagen sunroof repair service covers that separate system. We keep the diagnosis tied to the actual entry path.

Ready to collect

Collection and care after fitting

Leave with a confirmed driving time, a clear explanation of the checks and written care instructions for the installed glass and adhesive.

Clean windscreen and wiper blades ready for visibility checks
Glass clarity, wiper sweep and washer spray are checked before collection.
Your release time

Safe drive-away time comes first

Fitting time, adhesive drive-away time and full cure are different. Release depends on the actual adhesive, vehicle requirements and installation conditions, including temperature and humidity where relevant.

We confirm the earliest permitted driving time. Calibration, glass availability, trim work or aperture repairs can extend the visit.

  1. 01

    Review the completed checks

Check clarity, fit, trim, wiper sweep, washer spray and relevant sensor functions. Review required camera-calibration results and any remaining warning. New blades, arms or washer repairs are quoted separately.

  2. 02

    Follow the written care times

Follow the fitting team’s instructions for washing, pressure jets, adhesive cure and retaining tape. A universal one-hour or 24-hour rule does not suit every adhesive system.

  3. 03

    Plan accessories and toll tags

Tell us about a dashcam, permits or toll tag before removal. Reinstall without obstructing vision or the camera area, and follow Salik guidance for affected tags or account actions.

  4. 04

    Report anything that changes

Contact us about new water entry, wind noise, lifting trim, distorted HUD projection or an assistance warning. Keep the invoice and installation details so the fitted system and agreed terms can be checked.

Know what you are approving

A useful quotation makes the glass, fitting and required checks visible together. Compare these details before choosing a replacement.

What your quote should show

  • Identified glass: manufacturer or genuine VW part, fitted features and the compatible application.
  • Installation: removal, normal preparation, adhesive, labour and the trim or sensor items included.
  • Electronics: any required camera calibration and separate sensor or wiring work, with its price.
  • Total and terms: VAT treatment, assessment or recovery charges, expected availability and applicable warranty conditions.

Why owners contact our Al Quoz workshop

Volkswagen-specific diagnostic software supports the electronic checks. Genuine or suitable OEM parts are identified in the written quote, and replacement work starts after your approval.

That approval also applies if inspection reveals additional work. You can compare the proposed parts and complete job price before deciding, rather than committing to an unexplained glass-only figure.

Match the glass to your model

Your generation and fitted equipment decide the pane. These selected Jetta and Touareg budgets help price the work; they are not fixed prices for every version or glass option.

ApplicationGlass with standard fittingRequired camera calibration
Selected Jetta applicationsAED 900–1,800AED 400–800 additional where needed
Selected Touareg applicationsAED 1,800–3,800AED 400–800 additional where needed

Indicative model-specific ranges. The actual named glass and features, adhesive, fitting, mouldings or sensor pads, VAT treatment and any calibration are confirmed in the written quote. Special-option genuine glass, damaged openings and related repairs can exceed these budgets. Calibration is charged once when required and not already included.

Jetta glass and sensor fitment
Mk5, Mk6 and Mk7 generations can differ in mirror mounts, rain/light sensing and camera equipment. Match the individual vehicle before ordering; not every later Jetta has the same assistance features. A required camera calibration is separate from checking automatic wiper operation. Greasy deposits or a recurring sweet-smelling film on intact glass need moisture or heater-circuit investigation rather than automatic windscreen replacement.
Touareg equipment and generation
Identify the 7L, 7P or CR application and the actual options. Camera equipment can also be present on a 7P, so calibration is not only a CR-generation concern. HUD, acoustic, solar-control or heated glass must retain the correct specification. A windscreen camera, radar and Night Vision equipment are separate systems; replacement glass does not automatically require replacing those sensors.
Golf, GTI, Polo and Passat
Generation, body style, mirror attachment and sensor equipment can change the pane. Standard, performance and imported specifications are checked individually, rather than ordering by model name alone.
Tiguan, T-Roc, Teramont and other VWs
Identify camera, HUD, acoustic and heating options where fitted. ID. models, hybrids, vans and pickups have their own applications; electric propulsion or vehicle size alone does not identify the correct glass or set the price.

This page also covers rear window replacement. Rear glass has separate construction, connections and installation requirements; a stuck door window can instead involve a regulator or motor.

Windshield replacement questions

Practical answers about glass, fitting and the work around it.

Can shattered rear glass be repaired like a windscreen chip?+

No. Shattered toughened rear glass needs replacement, not resin injection. We confirm the installed glass type, match its heating and other fittings, inspect the opening and quote the replacement. A heater fault or water leak with intact glass needs a separate diagnosis.

How much does Volkswagen rear window replacement cost?+

Indicative rear-window replacement budgets are AED 800 to 2,500. Model, body style, heated or aerial-equipped glass, fitting and any extra repairs change the total. The written quotation identifies the pane, labour, bonding or seals, relevant function checks and applicable VAT treatment. Specialist applications can cost more.

Can a repaired chip still be visible?+

Yes. A resin repair can leave a mark even when the damage is suitable for treatment. The aim is to stabilise eligible damage and improve clarity; the result depends on the break and its condition. We assess critical viewing and camera areas before agreeing to repair.

Do I need genuine Volkswagen glass?+

It depends on the application, required procedure and agreed parts choice. Genuine VW glass and a suitable named OEM-supplier option can be compared where appropriate. Camera mounts, optical quality, HUD, heating and other features must match; the supplier label alone does not establish compatibility.

Does every replacement require ADAS calibration?+

The fitted equipment and Volkswagen procedure determine the requirement. A car without a relevant front camera does not receive camera calibration simply because its glass was changed. When calibration is required, it is planned and priced before the job is approved.

Can you fix automatic wipers after glass replacement?+

We assess the rain sensor attachment, optical pad or gel, mounting, connections and operation. The sensor is separate from forward-camera calibration. A poor interface can affect wiping, but a failed sensor or another electrical fault must be diagnosed rather than assumed.

Can I drive as soon as the new screen is fitted?+

Drive only after the fitting team confirms the applicable adhesive drive-away requirement and the agreed checks are complete. The timing depends on the actual product, vehicle and conditions. Physical installation time is not the same as permission to drive.

Will a replacement solve a water leak?+

Only if the windscreen or its bond is the source and the proposed work addresses it. Water can also enter through roof seams, drainage paths, sunroof components or door seals. We trace the entry path before recommending glass removal or replacement.

Are wiper blades and calibration included in the price?+

The written quote identifies both. New wiper blades are not automatically included. Required calibration, sensor pads, mouldings, clips or extra repairs are listed so you can see the full job total, including the applicable VAT treatment.

Can the car be guaranteed to pass its inspection?+

No inspection result is promised by a glass replacement alone. Visibility, fitted equipment and the vehicle’s overall condition still matter. We explain the glass work and checks completed, and any remaining concerns that need attention before the car is presented for inspection.
