AC and cooling built for Dubai summers

The Passat's AC and engine cooling share the same front radiator stack. They depend on related fan and airflow conditions, but a fault in one does not establish failure in the other.

Warm AC at idleCondenser fan, low gas or a blocked condenser
Cold then warmCompressor clutch or pressure switch
Coolant smellWater pump, thermostat or hoses
Gauge rising in trafficRadiator fan or a blocked radiator

We pressure test the cooling system, measure AC pressures and vent temperatures, and leak test with UV dye before any part is replaced. See Passat AC, AC compressor, water pump and radiator.

Passat questions

Straight answers before you book your Passat in.

How much does a Passat service cost?

The existing page guide is AED 250 to 600 for an oil change. Filters, plugs and other scheduled items depend on the engine and service history, so a larger service needs its own quote. The repair price board gives separate budgets for cooling, gearbox and electrical work. Confirm the full scope before approval.

Why does my Passat jerk when changing gear?

A conventional automatic and a DSG can produce similar symptoms from different faults. Fluid level, hydraulic controls, clutch operation or internal wear may be involved. We identify the transmission and check its behaviour and fault data before quoting. A jerky shift alone does not justify buying a replacement gearbox.

Why is my Passat AC warm in traffic?

Warm AC at idle may involve condenser airflow, a fan fault, refrigerant loss or compressor control. Vent temperature and pressure checks help distinguish them. The existing AC diagnostic guide is AED 250 to 500. A recharge should follow a leak assessment, with repair and refrigerant scope agreed before work.

Can you repair coolant leaks?

Cooling work starts by finding the leak at the pump, housing, hoses, radiator or another component. The existing fitted water-pump guide is AED 900 to 3,300, depending on application. Coolant specification and bleeding requirements are matched to the car. Stop driving if it overheats rather than repeatedly topping up and continuing.

Do all Passats have a timing chain?

No. Belt and chain engines both appear in Passats, and specifications vary by market and generation. Confirm the engine code and its maintenance requirement before ordering parts. The kit, associated work and replacement interval need to suit that engine. A year-based table is a starting point, not a fitment guarantee.

What changed for new UAE-market Passats?

Volkswagen Dubai now lists the new Passat with 1.5 TSI and 2.0 TSI engine choices. Treat it separately from the older B6, B7, B8 and other imported versions on this page. Identify the VIN and service plan first, and check dealer warranty or campaign eligibility before approving independent paid work.

Are OEM parts a sensible alternative?

The workshop offers genuine Volkswagen and OEM supplier parts where suitable and available. Your written quote should identify the proposed part and the complete fitting scope. Compare specifications, labour, fluids, coding and stated warranty terms together. An OEM label alone does not establish that a component fits every Passat engine or gearbox.

How long does a Passat repair take?

An oil change, battery or brake job is often completed the same day when the appointment and parts are confirmed. Cooling, AC or timing work needs an agreed estimate, and gearbox repairs depend on findings and supply. Call or WhatsApp your year and problem for assessment before planning a collection time.

Book your Passat in

Send your Passat model, year and problem. Mileage and a dashboard photo are useful if available. Ask for the inspection scope, a written quote and the likely timeline before arranging the visit.
