Which Crafter do you run?

There are two very different Crafters. The first generation was developed alongside the Sprinter, while the second is a Volkswagen design with its own engines and drive options. The year, engine and gearbox codes identify the parts and procedures; body conversions can add separate equipment.

Common Crafter faults in Dubai

Short delivery runs, heavy loads and long idling with the AC on are hard on a diesel van. These are faults to assess and what we check before recommending parts.

2.0 TDI

DPF blocked or limp mode

A DPF light, loss of power or frequent regenerations, which can involve interrupted regeneration, sensor readings, accumulated ash or an underlying engine fault.

We check: soot and ash load, pressure sensor readings and why it is clogging before any cleaning or replacement.
Crafter 2

AdBlue and NOx warnings

A countdown to no start, AdBlue quality messages or NOx sensor codes.

We check: fluid quality, the heater and pump, and NOx sensor values.
Manual vans

Clutch and dual-mass flywheel

Slipping under load, judder pulling away or a rattle at idle.

We check: clutch slip on a road test and flywheel play before quoting the kit.
All years

EGR and turbo faults

Low power, black smoke or boost codes.

We check: boost and EGR live data, and a smoke test for intake leaks.
Minibus

Weak rear AC

Cold air at the front but warm at the back on passenger Crafters.

We check: pressures, the rear evaporator, blower and leak tests.
Heavy use

Brake and suspension wear

Grinding, pulling or a van that sits low at the back when loaded.

We check: disc thickness, springs, shocks and bushes on a lift.

Crafter servicing for businesses and fleets

A Crafter off the road costs money every day. We plan the work around your schedule and tell you up front what the van needs now and what can wait.

  • Clear quotes: parts, labour and VAT listed before work starts, with approval for anything extra.
  • Parts planning: availability and expected supply time confirmed for the parts on your approved quote.
  • Service records: each visit recorded so you can track every van in your fleet.
  • Honest priorities: safety items first, then items that prevent breakdowns, then the rest.
  • Other VW vans: we also work on the Transporter, Caddy and Amarok.

Crafter service schedule for UAE work

Use the maintenance schedule for the actual engine, gearbox and original market. Discuss loads, idling, dust and delivery trips when planning condition checks, rather than treating one interval as suitable for every van.

What to plan and when

  1. 1

    Every service

Engine oil and filter to the VW diesel approval, fluid levels, brakes, tyres, battery test and a diagnostic scan including DPF soot load.

  2. 2

    According to the service plan

Fuel filter, air and cabin filters, brake fluid by time and an AC performance check.

  3. 3

    By mileage and age

Timing belt or chain checks by engine, automatic gearbox fluid, coolant, and suspension bushes on vans that run fully loaded.

Exact intervals depend on engine code and use. We check the service record and the van's own service display before recommending work.

Why Crafter owners choose us

We are a Volkswagen specialist, so the Crafter's diesel systems, coding and service procedures are familiar work. We diagnose first and only replace what the evidence supports.

  • VW-specific fault data for the fitted diesel, emissions and gearbox systems
  • Genuine Volkswagen or OEM-supplier parts, your choice on the quote
  • Diesel oil to the approval your engine needs
  • Written quote and approval before any extra work
  • Workshop in Al Quoz 4, open Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 7 pm

Content updated October 2026. Ask the workshop team to confirm the assessment and quote for your vehicle.

What should your quote include?

Repair what testing confirms

DPF, AdBlue and low-power faults need different checks. Cleaning, a sensor repair or clutch work should follow the findings, rather than a blanket replacement of the whole system.

Compare the parts routes

Compare compatible genuine Volkswagen and OEM-supplier parts where available. The quote should name the product, fitting, required setup and warranty terms. For a converted Crafter, identify separate body equipment too. Old parts are returned on request.

How does the visit work?

  1. Identify the working van

Send the year, body type, mileage and warning. Mention loads, delivery trips, rear AC or conversion equipment, and who can approve company work.

  2. Agree assessment and repair

Match the engine and drivetrain, assess the fault and separate urgent repairs from servicing. Review parts availability, labour, tax treatment and any strip-down cost.

  3. Approve and plan collection

Additional work needs your approval. Agree the completion estimate, then collect with an explanation of findings, relevant checks and the vehicle service record.

Crafter questions

Straight answers before you book your van in.

Crafter dashboard showing a DPF warning
How much does Crafter servicing cost in Dubai?

The guide is AED 700 to 1,300 for a minor service and AED 1,200 to 2,200 for a major service. Engine, due filters and body conversion affect the total. These are maintenance budgets, not prices for an unresolved DPF, engine or gearbox fault. Send the van details for a written parts-and-labour quote.

Does a DPF light mean the filter needs replacement?

No. A DPF warning needs testing before a replacement decision. Pressure and temperature sensor faults, interrupted regeneration, engine faults and accumulated ash can require different work. We assess the fault records and filter readings first. Cleaning or regeneration is only considered when the findings and safe operating limits support it.

What should I do about an AdBlue countdown?

Contact the workshop promptly and send a photo of the exact message and remaining countdown. Depending on the fault, the van may refuse to restart once the displayed limit is reached. Adding fluid will not resolve every emissions-system fault. Diagnosis separates a low level from sensor, dosing or other system problems.

Can you work on both Crafter generations?

The page covers the earlier Crafter and the Volkswagen-designed model introduced in 2017. Engines, gearboxes, axle layouts and emissions equipment vary by market and year. Send the model year and body type first. The VIN and component codes can then be checked before parts are selected or a major job is agreed.

Must the clutch and flywheel always be replaced together?

No. The clutch and dual-mass flywheel should both be assessed, but replacement depends on their condition and the applicable procedure. A slipping clutch does not prove that every nearby part has failed. Ask for a quote separating the clutch kit, flywheel if needed, labour and any related leaks or hydraulic faults.

How can I plan Crafter repair downtime?

Ask for the assessment appointment, parts supply and repair duration separately. Routine service or straightforward brakes can often be planned within a day, while a clutch or deeper fault needs its own estimate. Converted vans can require extra access or equipment checks. Agree any strip-down cost and the expected completion date after the fault is assessed.

Can a fleet approve work in stages?

Tell us which vans are affected, their symptoms and the dates they are needed. The workshop can discuss the assessment and quotation for each vehicle, separating urgent safety repairs from later maintenance where appropriate. Work is agreed before parts are replaced. A preferred delivery deadline still depends on diagnosis, parts and workshop capacity.

Should warranty and recall work go to the dealer?

Yes, contact the relevant authorised provider about a manufacturer recall or warranty claim before paying for the same work independently. Eligibility depends on the vehicle and applicable terms. Independent diagnosis and routine maintenance are different services. Keep invoices and service records, and ask the provider to confirm claim eligibility using the VIN.
