Revs rise, speed does not
Slipping under acceleration can involve worn friction material, contamination or a release-system fault. Avoid repeatedly testing it under load; the cause needs checking before a replacement is selected.
Clutch slipping, difficult gear selection or judder when moving off? Our independent VW workshop in Al Quoz 4, Dubai checks the fault, identifies your manual or DSG system and quotes the necessary repair before work starts.
Planning guides: GTI clutch work AED 2,500 to 4,500; Passat replacement AED 3,500 to 6,500. DSG clutch packs need a gearbox-specific quote.

A clutch kit, a fitted replacement and a clutch-plus-flywheel job are different purchases. These model guides help you plan; your gearbox and the findings determine the written quote.

Tell us when it happens, cold, hot, pulling away or accelerating. Similar symptoms can need different repairs.
Slipping under acceleration can involve worn friction material, contamination or a release-system fault. Avoid repeatedly testing it under load; the cause needs checking before a replacement is selected.
A manual car that creeps with the pedal down or resists gear selection may not be disengaging fully. Hydraulics, release components and the clutch itself need separate checks.
A sinking, sticking or unusually heavy pedal can involve the master/slave cylinder or release system. Note whether noise changes with pedal position, engine starting or switching off.
Shudder when moving off, delayed engagement or a gearbox warning can have several causes. Clutch condition, control operation, mounts and engine running are assessed together rather than guessed from one symptom.
Drive unreliable or a strong burning smell? Stop safely and call. Do not force the gears or repeatedly rev a slipping clutch. Send the exact warning message if one is displayed.
The model badge or number of forward gears is not enough to choose the kit. We identify the fitted transmission first.
The friction disc, pressure plate and release system work with the flywheel. A hydraulic or release fault can prevent disengagement even when the friction parts remain serviceable.
A dry double-clutch assembly needs the matching engagement parts and installation procedure. Mechanical settings and required electronic basic settings are separate steps; a reset cannot replace worn material.
Wet clutch packs use a different design, kit and fluid requirements. Clutch wear, hydraulic/control faults and contamination must be distinguished before deciding what to replace.
A warning is not a clutch diagnosis. Our Volkswagen gearbox repair service covers wider transmission faults. For a confirmed control-unit problem, see mechatronic repair and replacement.
The first job is to establish whether the fault is in the friction parts, release system or transmission controls.
Inspection after gearbox removal can reveal additional damage. Further parts or work require a revised quote before approval.

A rattle does not by itself prove dual-mass flywheel failure. Nearby engine, mounting or starting-system faults can sound similar.
Price context: Golf flywheel-part guides are AED 1,500 to 3,500, with labour separate. A flywheel is not automatically included in a clutch kit or every replacement budget above.
Our workshop offers genuine Volkswagen and suitable OEM supplier parts. The right choice matches the actual application, not just an “OEM quality” label.
Tell us about software tuning, towing or previous clutch/flywheel changes. An unsuitable combination can create slip, vibration or poor disengagement.
A stronger clutch does not make repeated hard launches harmless. Any modified-parts option needs its own fitment and warranty terms.
The installation procedure is as important as the kit. Required tools, settings and checks depend on the identified transmission.
Support and remove the gearbox to the applicable procedure. Inspect clutch, flywheel and release parts; identify leaks or damage that could affect the new assembly.
Install the matched components with the specified method and fasteners. Self-adjusting manual clutches and DSG engagement settings require their appropriate procedures. Complete necessary bleeding, fluids and basic settings.
Check engagement/disengagement, pedal or DSG operation, leaks and relevant fault data. Complete a safe verification drive and explain the work, remaining findings and aftercare at collection.
Identify the system and agree assessment or dismantling before the repair.
Golf/Polo guides: roughly 4 to 6 hours; manual Passat: 5 to 8 hours, before complications.
Parts availability and any extra work affect collection. Setup and verification must be completed.
Follow the fitted kit's bedding-in and operating advice. There is no single replacement mileage or run-in distance for every VW clutch.
Before any work starts you get the fault codes, the likely cause and a written quote. Old parts are shown to you at handover.

Most clutch wear happens while pulling away and creeping in slow traffic. A few habits reduce heat and slip, whether your car is a manual or a DSG.
Use the handbrake or Auto Hold on ramps and car park slopes, not the clutch or throttle. Holding a car on the clutch creates heat fast.
On a manual, resting a foot on the clutch pedal keeps the release bearing working and can cause light slip. Select neutral at long stops.
In stop and go traffic, hold a DSG still on the brake instead of edging forward on the throttle, which keeps the clutches slipping.
Hard launches, heavy loads and towing raise clutch temperature. Engine tuning also increases the load the clutch must carry.
An engine or gearbox seal leak can contaminate the friction surfaces and cause judder or slip, even on a newer clutch.
Wet clutch DSG units need fluid changes on the VW schedule for that gearbox. Dry clutch units do not have a routine clutch fluid change.
Not sure if it is the clutch? Judder, slip and hard selection can also come from mounts, hydraulics or gearbox control. Our guide to early signs of VW gearbox trouble explains how DSG, automatic and manual faults differ.
Clear answers before you approve the work.
Existing model guides indicate AED 2,500 to 4,500 for GTI clutch work and AED 3,500 to 6,500 for Passat replacement work. These are model-specific estimates, not a universal manual or DSG tariff. Kit contents, labour, flywheel condition, hydraulics and required setup affect the total. A DSG clutch-pack quote follows identification of the exact gearbox and fault.
No. Clutch wear or contamination is one possibility, but engine running, mounts, control/mechatronic operation and setup can also affect take-up. We assess fault codes, relevant live data and the mechanical condition before recommending parts. An adaptation cannot repair worn friction material, while replacing a clutch pack will not fix an unrelated control fault.
Yes, when a confirmed external hydraulic or actuation fault is the cause and the clutch remains serviceable. A master cylinder, line or slave cylinder can cause disengagement problems. An internal concentric slave cylinder may require gearbox removal, so the quote explains access and whether related clutch work is justified. A leaking seal or cylinder is not repaired by bleeding alone.
It needs inspection, not an automatic decision from a rattle or mileage alone. Surface condition, heat damage, movement and the applicable manufacturer checks determine whether reuse is suitable. Some dual-mass flywheels cannot be resurfaced; a machining price on a general guide is not permission to machine every unit. Any replacement is identified separately in the quote.
Existing model guides allow roughly 4 to 6 hours for straightforward Golf/Polo work and 5 to 8 hours for a manual Passat job. These are planning references, not a promised collection time. Parts availability, gearbox type, flywheel or hydraulic repairs and the required checks can extend the visit. DSG setup and verification also need time before handover.
We match the VIN, engine and gearbox identification, production version and fitted flywheel/release system. A Golf, Polo or Passat badge alone does not identify the clutch. Genuine Volkswagen and suitable OEM supplier options are available for applicable repairs; the quote names the kit and its actual contents rather than assuming all bearings, cylinders, bolts and flywheel are included.
No. A fluid/filter service, a clutch-pack replacement and an electronic basic setting are different operations. Dry and wet DSG designs have different requirements. The correct fluid circuits, specifications and any service interval come from the identified gearbox. A reset or oil change cannot restore worn friction material, and an existing warning needs diagnosis.
A tuned engine may need a different clutch capacity, but a performance kit is not automatically the best daily-driving choice. Engine torque, gearbox, flywheel compatibility and use determine the option. Discuss pedal effort, take-up, noise, operating limits and warranty terms. We do not promise that an upgrade will make hard launches harmless or prevent drivetrain damage.
Follow the exact dashboard message. Stop safely and call if drive is unreliable, gears cannot be selected, there is severe vibration or a strong burning smell. Do not force gear engagement or keep revving a car that is barely moving. A stop instruction or overheating message needs the action specified for the vehicle; send the exact wording and location.
The job is checked for correct engagement/disengagement, appropriate pedal behaviour or DSG operation, leaks and relevant warnings. Required basic settings and a safe verification drive follow the applicable procedure. At collection, review the parts fitted, any remaining findings, aftercare and the written warranty/workmanship terms. Use the kit-specific bedding-in advice rather than one mileage rule for every clutch.
Send your VW model, year and symptoms. We will identify the next checks and quote the proposed repair before work begins.
