Repair or replace?

The bumper cover is the visible outer skin. Its appearance alone cannot establish the condition of the parts behind it.

Surface marks

Scuffs and paint damage

Assess paint transfer, clear-coat marks, deep scratches and peeling paint separately. Suitable cosmetic repair can preserve a serviceable cover; polishing cannot replace missing colour or fix a split.

Plastic-cover damage

Dents, cracks and tabs

Material, damage location and the vehicle's repair limits determine whether a repair is suitable. Missing plastic, failed attachments, previous filler and sensor areas can change the decision.

Unsuitable or damaged parts

Replacement when needed

Quote a compatible cover or damaged supporting components when repair is inappropriate. A new painted skin does not repair a bent reinforcement, crushed absorber or damaged body mounting.

Loose cover, rubbing tyre, fluid leak or warning after impact? Stop safely and call if continued driving may cause harm. Discuss recovery assistance rather than drive in with an unstable or leaking car.

Check behind the cover

A scrape can be cosmetic, but an impact or a changed panel gap may justify a closer inspection before painting.

Mounts
Side guides, brackets, tabs, clips and fasteners that secure the cover.
Impact parts
Absorber, reinforcement and mounting areas where the damage warrants access.
Equipment
Sensor holders, connectors, wiring and displaced fittings.
Nearby parts
Grilles, reflectors, wheel-arch liners, undertrays, lights and washer fittings as equipped.

Dismantling can reveal additional damage. We explain the finding and revised quote before expanding the approved repair.

Colour and paint finish

The right result starts with suitable preparation and an agreed finish. A plastic bumper and its adjacent metal panels can reflect light differently.

Prepare the correct material

  • Identify the surface: plastic type, existing coating and previous repairs.
  • Use a suitable method: compatible repair products and adhesion treatment where the procedure requires them.
  • Respect repair limits: sensor-related areas and special surfaces may restrict filling, heating or coating.

A coating system's repair procedure does not override the vehicle manufacturer's restrictions for that component.

Agree the appearance

Painted finish
Match the paint code, current colour, metallic/pearl effect and sheen; identify any blending work.
Textured trim
Unpainted texture, gloss-black inserts and decorative pieces need their own repair or replacement decision.

We discuss existing fading, prior paintwork and visible differences before approval. An invisible match in every light is not promised.

Sensors need the right checks

A warning-free dashboard or a good paint finish is not the whole assessment. Identify the fitted equipment and the work that disturbed it.

Parking sensors

Ultrasonic sensors need suitable holders, seating, wiring and function checks. Cover openings and permitted paint treatment depend on the sensor and vehicle. See our parking-sensor repair service for a persistent fault.

Radar and assistance systems

ACC, Front Assist and rear-side radar have different locations and procedures. Damaged mounts or material in the sensing area can affect operation. The required alignment, calibration and verification are determined for the exact vehicle.

Before approval: the quote identifies necessary diagnostic checks, calibration arrangements and related charges. Parking-sensor checks and radar calibration are different operations; neither is automatically included in a paint-only guide price.

Match your bumper

The model name and a similar-looking cover are not enough. Match the VIN, production version and equipment before ordering.

Version
Model year, body style, facelift and standard, GTI, R or R-Line application.
Openings
Parking sensors, washers, grilles, reflectors and equipment-specific provisions.
Fittings
Side guides, lower trim, liners, undertray connections and tow-eye cover as fitted.
Supply
Primed or finished cover, transferred components and separately supplied parts.

Know which parts are included

A genuine Volkswagen cover matched to the vehicle is a clear starting point. Any proposed alternative must be named and assessed for the application, fit and equipment compatibility.

  • Cover versus assembly: a cover may arrive without grilles, trim, sensors or reinforcement.
  • Reusable parts: transfer serviceable fittings only when their condition and procedure permit it.
  • Additional work: collision damage to nearby panels or mountings needs separate assessment.

For wider accident or panel work, our Volkswagen body shop explains the broader repair options.

From photos to collection

One wide photo and one close-up help us prepare. Inspection establishes the method, parts and completion plan.

Agree the work before it starts

  1. 01

    Assess and quote

Identify the damage and equipment. Agree access, proposed parts, paint work and charges.

  2. 02

    Repair and refinish

Complete the approved repair or replacement using the applicable preparation and fitting procedures.

  3. 03

    Check and hand over

Review fit, finish, related functions and any required electronic verification before collection.

Completion timing: preparation, paint curing, parts supply and sensor work affect the visit. Send any deadline with your photos; the agreed quotation sets the schedule rather than a universal same-day promise.

Check at collection

At collection, understand what was repaired, what was replaced and how to care for the finish.

  • Fit and finish: check the agreed paint area, panel gaps and securely fitted trim.
  • Functions: review relevant sensor, light, washer or assistance-system checks.
  • Aftercare: follow the actual coating's curing, washing and polishing instructions.
  • Documents: retain the invoice, parts list and applicable paint, parts and workmanship terms.
Before any work starts you get the fault codes, the likely cause and a written quote. Old parts are shown to you at handover.

Bumper repair questions

Practical answers before you approve the work.

How much does Volkswagen bumper repair cost in Dubai?

The existing service guide is AED 800 to 2,500 for repairable bumper work and AED 2,000 to 6,000 for replacement work. These are planning ranges, not fixed fitted packages or a combined front-and-rear price. The quote identifies the affected cover, repair and paint work, parts, removal/refitting, required electronic checks and VAT treatment.

Can a scratched bumper be repaired without replacement?

Often, when the damage is confined to a suitable cover and an approved repair is appropriate. Paint transfer or a light clear-coat mark may need different work from a deep gouge. Damage depth, plastic condition, previous repairs and sensor areas determine the method. Polishing cannot replace missing paint, and a neat exterior does not rule out hidden impact damage.

Can you repair a cracked bumper or broken mounting tab?

Some plastic-cover damage may be repairable, but a crack or broken tab needs inspection before a promise is made. The material, location, missing pieces, mounting strength and vehicle-specific repair limits matter. Damage near a sensor or a critical attachment can require replacement. A plastic-cover repair does not repair a damaged reinforcement, absorber or body mounting.

Does a bumper quote include the reinforcement and sensors?

Not automatically. The painted cover, impact absorber, reinforcement, brackets, parking sensors, wiring and decorative trim are different components. A replacement cover is not a complete bumper assembly unless the parts list says so. Hidden damage found after removal is explained and quoted before additional work is approved.

Will the paint match the rest of my Volkswagen?

We assess the paint code, existing colour and finish, ageing and previous paintwork before agreeing the refinishing. Metallic, pearl, matte and textured surfaces need different treatment. Plastic and adjacent metal panels can appear different under some lighting. Any additional blending is discussed in the quote; an invisible match under every condition is not promised.

Do parking sensors or radar need calibration after bumper work?

The requirement depends on the equipment and what was damaged, removed or replaced. Parking-sensor fitting and function checks differ from radar alignment or calibration. Sensor brackets, wiring and the cover in the sensing area must be suitable before the required procedure is completed. The vehicle-specific checks and any calibration arrangements are identified in the quotation.

How long will bumper repair or replacement take?

The schedule depends on the repair, paint preparation and curing, correct-part supply and any electronic checks. A cosmetic cover repair is different from replacement with hidden impact damage. Send photos and any deadline when enquiring; the completion plan follows assessment. A photo estimate or enquiry does not guarantee same-day collection.

How is the correct replacement bumper selected?

The VIN, model year, production version and fitted equipment establish the part. Standard, GTI, R and R-Line appearances do not identify every bracket, sensor opening, grille or lower trim. Headlamp washers, parking equipment and assistance systems can change the application. The quote states which components can transfer and which need replacement.

What should I send before bringing the car in?

Send your model and year, whether the front or rear is damaged, one photo showing the whole area and a close-up. Include any loose part, leak, rubbing, warning message or previous repair you know about. Our workshop is in Al Quoz 4, Dubai, open Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 7 pm. Call first if the car may be unsafe to drive.
