Choose the inspection you need

For an owner, the priority is what needs attention and when. For a buyer, it is the condition, missing history and likely work to budget for before agreeing the purchase.

For your current car

Multi-point condition inspection

AED 200 to 1,500 indicative

A workshop check of accessible mechanical, electrical and safety items, with findings explained in a written report. Useful before a long journey, after a period off the road or when maintenance history is incomplete.

The exact depth depends on your concern, the vehicle and the checks agreed before the appointment.

Before you buy

VW pre-purchase inspection

AED 300 to 2,000 indicative

A buyer-focused condition assessment covering the agreed mechanical checks, diagnostic findings, visible body and underbody condition, available history and a road test where safe and authorised. Receive the report before making your decision. See the full checklist and a sample report on our Volkswagen pre purchase inspection page.

Arrange seller permission and workshop access before committing to a non-refundable payment.

What changes the price?
Model, engine, drivetrain, inspection depth, access and any specialist tests. A short visual check and a detailed used-car assessment are different jobs.
What is separate?
Repairs, parts, fluid changes, dismantling, third-party history reports and specialist tests unless listed in the agreed quote. Inspection does not authorise repair.
Your total before booking
The written quote sets out the selected checks, additional charges and VAT treatment. Agree the inspection price before the car is assessed.

Already showing a fault? Tell us about overheating, a warning light, noise or poor shifting when you enquire. A general inspection may need targeted diagnosis to establish the cause. Noise assessment is quoted for the investigation needed; repairs and dismantling are separate unless agreed.

What the inspection covers

The checklist follows the equipment fitted to your VW and the agreed level of access. Findings identify what was checked, what needs attention and what could not be assessed.

Engine and cooling

  • Running condition. Starting, idle, unusual noise, smoke and visible oil leaks on petrol or diesel engines. A cold start is useful when the seller can leave the engine cold.
  • Cooling circuit. Accessible water pump, thermostat housing, radiator, hoses and coolant condition. A pressure test is separate if a suspected leak needs confirmation.
  • Belts and intake. Visible belt and hose condition, intake connections and evidence of turbo or crankcase ventilation (PCV) concerns. Accessible fuel lines and the exhaust are checked for visible damage or leaks. Internal wear needs further tests.

Gearbox and drivetrain

  • The fitted transmission. Manual clutch operation, conventional automatic or dual-clutch DSG behaviour, including engagement, hesitation, shift quality and leaks.
  • Drive components. Accessible mounts, driveshafts, CV joints and protective boots. 4MOTION components and maintenance history are considered where fitted.
  • Next step. A fault code or poor shift is a finding, not proof that the complete gearbox needs replacing. Specific faults can move to gearbox and DSG diagnosis.

Brakes, steering and suspension

  • Braking. Accessible pads, discs, hoses, lines and fluid, parking-brake operation and relevant ABS warnings. Record wear or measurements where access permits.
  • Steering and suspension. Play, leaks, bushes, arms, joints, shock absorbers and wheel-bearing concerns. Air suspension is assessed only on equipped vehicles.
  • Tyres and wheels. Tread, damage, date markings, pressure, tyre pressure monitoring (TPMS) warnings and uneven wear. Alignment measurement, balancing and adjustments are separate work.

Electronics and cabin

  • VW diagnostic scan. Available control modules, stored faults and relevant live data. Engine, gearbox, ABS, airbag and body systems are checked as supported by the car.
  • 12V and controls. 12V battery condition, an appropriate load or conductance test, charging concerns where applicable, exterior lights, wipers, horn, windows, locks, supplied keys and infotainment.
  • Comfort and safety equipment. AC operation, seat belts, warning-light behaviour, parking sensors and fitted cameras or driver-assistance warnings. Function checks do not certify airbag integrity or replace ADAS calibration.

Road test and underbody access

A road test can reveal vibration, brake pull, steering noise and shift concerns that a stationary check misses. It depends on the vehicle being safe, legal to drive and authorised for the test. Raised-vehicle access helps inspect leaks and underside damage; any restriction is recorded rather than treated as a completed check.

Unusual noise diagnosis

A rattle under acceleration, a hum at road speed or a clunk over bumps needs the source traced before parts are replaced. The sound alone cannot identify a failed component.

When?
Tell us whether it happens cold or warm, at idle, under acceleration, on overrun, when turning, braking or crossing bumps. Note whether it follows engine speed or road speed.
Where?
Inspection can compare engine and belt noise, exhaust joints or heat shields, tyres and wheel bearings, driveshafts, mounts, brakes and suspension. Cabin trim or door rattles need a different check from mechanical knocking.
Which checks?
A safe, authorised road test can help reproduce the complaint. Relevant fault codes and live data support the assessment, but many mechanical rattles produce no stored code. Further tests or dismantling need agreement.
What next?
The findings distinguish an identified cause from a suspected or intermittent noise. Any repair, adjustment or component replacement is quoted separately before work proceeds.

Stop for a serious change. Heavy knocking, grinding with reduced braking or a steering change needs prompt assessment. Stop safely for a red brake-system warning; for red oil-pressure warnings, switch off the engine. Follow the dashboard instructions and arrange suitable assistance. Do not keep driving to reproduce the sound.

Look beyond polished paintwork

A used car can look tidy while carrying repairs or water-related problems. A pre-purchase assessment considers physical condition alongside the documents available.

Body and paint
Panel gaps, overspray, inconsistent finish, fasteners, glass and visible repair marks. Paint-depth readings can be included when agreed; a repaint alone does not establish structural damage.
Chassis and underside
Accessible rails, mounting areas, welds, corrosion and impact damage. Covered areas, structural alignment measurement and dismantling require a separate agreed assessment.
Water and flood indicators
Dampness, staining, unusual odours, corrosion around accessible connectors and inconsistent electrical operation. These signs need investigation; a clean visible check cannot rule out all past water exposure.
VIN and history
Compare the vehicle identification number with available documents, odometer readings, invoices and service records. Missing records or inconsistencies are flagged. Full accident, finance, ownership or mileage verification requires the appropriate independent records.

Checks matched to your Volkswagen

Model year, engine code and gearbox matter more than a badge alone. A Golf, Tiguan and Touareg can need different checks, and imported cars may have different equipment and records.

TSI, TDI and older engines
Petrol TSI checks consider running quality, cooling and visible intake or turbo concerns. TDI diesels add relevant emissions-system warnings, including the diesel particulate filter (DPF), exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) or AdBlue where fitted. Timing belt or chain requirements follow the actual engine and service history, not one interval for every VW.
DSG and 4MOTION
Check which DSG or automatic is installed before judging fluid-service history. Wet and dry clutch gearboxes have different requirements. 4MOTION all-wheel-drive oil records, couplings and differentials are considered only where applicable; a fluid change is not automatically included.
Touareg and equipped SUVs
Include fitted air suspension, ride-height concerns, transfer-case behaviour, panoramic-roof operation and accessible signs of water ingress. A car without that equipment does not need those checks.
ID-series and hybrids
ID.3, ID.4, ID.6 and e-Golf need an EV-specific scope, including 12V supply, accessible charging components, warning messages and supported diagnostic data. Hybrids also retain combustion-engine checks. A normal inspection is not a high-voltage battery capacity certificate; agree battery state-of-health testing and import compatibility before booking.

Send the model, year and approximate mileage first. A VIN or service invoice can help identify the exact engine and drivetrain when needed.

A report you can use

The written condition report explains findings and their significance. For a buyer, it supports the purchase discussion. For an owner, it helps decide which work deserves attention first.

Address before driving

A material brake, tyre, steering, fluid-leak or warning concern may need immediate assessment. If the car appears unsafe, discuss transport instead of driving it to the workshop.

Budget for attention

Wear, overdue maintenance and confirmed repair needs should be separated from cosmetic preferences. Any repair estimate follows the actual findings and the parts and labour required.

Investigate further

An inaccessible component, intermittent fault or suspect history may need more evidence. Compression, leak-down, borescope, cooling-pressure, electrical or battery-capacity tests are separate unless agreed.

From appointment to decision

  1. 1

    Agree the checks

Tell us whether you own the car or plan to buy it. Agree the price, seller access, cold-start opportunity and expected completion time.

  2. 2

    Inspect and record

The vehicle is assessed against the agreed scope. Access or road-test restrictions are included with the findings.

  3. 3

    Review your options

Discuss the report before committing to the purchase or any repair. Further work needs its own approval and quote.

An inspection records the condition observable at the time. It does not guarantee future reliability, reveal every concealed defect or provide a warranty on a used car.

Inspection, servicing or RTA test?

A workshop condition report and an official registration test answer different questions. Choose the one that matches your next step.

Routine servicing
An inspection assesses condition. Oil, filters and scheduled replacements belong in the agreed oil change and scheduled service. Follow the schedule for the specific year, engine and market. An “Inspection due” reminder is not itself a fault diagnosis.
Before an RTA test
Workshop checks can identify visible concerns before registration or renewal testing. The official vehicle technical inspection and certificate must come through an RTA-approved provider. Our PPI report is not an RTA certificate or a guaranteed pass. Read our Volkswagen pre RTA check guide before your renewal test.
Recall or warranty query
Use the VIN with the authorised Volkswagen network for outstanding campaigns and manufacturer warranty eligibility. An independent inspection does not establish dealer certification or approval.

Before your inspection

Practical answers for owners and used-car buyers.

Volkswagen Repair Dubai is an independent specialist in Al Quoz 4. Workshop hours are Monday to Saturday, 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.

How long does a Volkswagen inspection take?+

The completion time depends on the agreed checks, vehicle condition, cold-start access, road test and any additional investigation. We set the expected timing with your appointment. If you are buying, arrange enough time to receive and discuss the report before paying or transferring ownership.

Does PPI include a complete accident history?+

No. Physical checks can identify visible evidence of repairs or damage, while supplied records help build the picture. A full accident, ownership, finance or mileage history depends on the relevant records being available. Missing history and inspection limits should remain part of the buying decision.

Can you inspect a car at the seller's location?+

This service is arranged through our Al Quoz 4 workshop. Discuss the car's location and transport when enquiring rather than assuming a mobile visit. Seller permission, underbody access and a safe, authorised road test affect how much can be assessed.

Is a 100-point or 200-point check better?+

The number alone does not tell you the depth. Compare which systems are checked, the inspection methods, access, diagnostic coverage, road test and what the written report explains. An omitted or inaccessible check should be identified clearly.

Can an inspection diagnose a rattling, whining or clunking noise?+

An inspection can identify visible wear or looseness, but an intermittent sound may need targeted diagnosis. Tell us whether it occurs cold, under acceleration, at a particular road speed, while turning, braking or over bumps. A safe road test and directed checks help locate the source; a clear fault-code scan alone does not rule out a mechanical problem. Agree the investigation charge first. Repairs and dismantling are separate unless included in the written quote.

Are repairs or replacement parts included?+

Only if separately listed and approved in the quote. Inspection identifies concerns; it does not authorise replacement. Where repairs are needed, genuine or suitable OEM parts can be quoted as available, with the parts, labour, testing and applicable warranty terms stated for that work.

What should I bring or send?+

Start with the model, year, mileage and whether this is your car or a proposed purchase. Bring available service invoices, the seller's advert, vehicle documents and all supplied keys. Share known warning lights, modifications and recent repairs. A VIN helps identify specification when needed.
