Standard nickel
Short lifeFine for older naturally aspirated engines when specified. Rarely the right choice for a TSI turbo engine.
Passat misfiring, idling rough, hesitating when you accelerate or using more fuel than it should? Plugs and coils are possible causes, alongside fuelling, intake, wiring or mechanical faults. We fit the correct plugs for your engine at our Al Quoz 4 workshop and check the coils at the same time.
Standard plugs AED 300 to 600. Iridium or platinum AED 500 to 1,000. Indicative Dubai prices including fitting on most engines.

A Passat spark plug replacement fits new plugs to the specification your engine was built for, when due by schedule or confirmed faulty. A misfire requires diagnosis before parts are selected. Standard plugs cost AED 300 to 600 and iridium or platinum plugs AED 500 to 1,000. We read the misfire counters first, test the coils and torque each plug to specification.
Fitted estimates for alternative plug types, subject to engine and quantity. The quote identifies the exact plug and whether the engine needs four, five or six, plus access, fitting, VAT and any separate diagnosis. Do not add labour again to a fitted price.
| Job | Guide price |
|---|---|
| Standard spark plugs, fitted | AED 300 to 600 |
| Iridium or platinum plugs, fitted | AED 500 to 1,000 |
| Standalone fitting guideFor separately supplied parts; access assessed by engine | AED 150 to 300 |
| Ignition coils, if needed | AED 500 to 1,500 |
Guide prices only. Extra work is only done after you approve it.
Ask for scheduled plug replacement or tell us the symptoms. These optional details help confirm the right work and complete quote.
Plug wear can affect ignition, but these symptoms do not establish the failed component. A service-due replacement and fault diagnosis are different jobs.
Follow the time and distance limits for the actual engine code and market-specific service schedule. The engine examples below help identify the correct part and job size; they are not one universal replacement interval.
| Engine | Passat generations | Fitment and schedule | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.4 TSI | B8, 2015 onwards | Check the exact engine schedule | Small turbo engine, check coils with every plug change |
| 1.8 TSI | B6, B7, US built and B8 | Check the exact engine schedule | Direct injection, carbon build up can mimic plug misfires |
| 2.0 TSI | B6 to B8 | Check the exact engine schedule | For a tuned engine, use the documented tuner and plug-manufacturer specification |
| 2.5 five cylinder | US built, 2012 to 2014 | Check the exact engine schedule | Naturally aspirated, five plugs and coils |
| 3.6 VR6 | B6 and US built | Check the exact engine schedule | Six plugs; confirm access and the prescribed procedure for the actual engine |
The right plug is the one your engine was designed for. Match the specified part, thread reach, seat, heat range and electrode design; price alone does not establish compatibility.
Fine for older naturally aspirated engines when specified. Rarely the right choice for a TSI turbo engine.
Use iridium or platinum only where the specified part calls for it. Electrode material alone does not establish fitment or a replacement interval.
Use only when supported by the documented engine modification and plug specification. A colder plug is not an automatic upgrade for a standard engine.
The listed petrol engines use cylinder-specific ignition coils; diesels do not use spark plugs. Inspect coils, boots, connections and plug wells, but do not replace a set solely because the plugs are being changed.
More on coil faults in our Volkswagen ignition faults guide.
Misfire counters identify the affected cylinder; further ignition, fuel or mechanical checks establish the cause.
Plugs come out of a cool aluminium head to protect the threads.
Fit the correct specified plugs and torque using the applicable procedure. Check gaps as prescribed, without damaging fine electrodes, and inspect coils and wells for damage or contamination.
Verify the repair with relevant data and a road test where safe, after any severe misfire is resolved.
Straight answers before you book in.
Standard plugs are typically AED 300 to 600 fitted and iridium or platinum plugs AED 500 to 1,000. Coils, if needed, add AED 500 to 1,500.
Follow the time and distance schedule for the exact engine, specified plug and market version. Check service history rather than applying one mileage interval to every Passat. Modified engines need documented maintenance requirements.
A faulty plug can cause a misfire, but a flashing light does not identify the plug or coil as the cause. Continued misfiring can damage the catalyst. Stop safely with severe rough running or power loss and arrange assessment; recovery may be needed.
Replace coils when testing establishes a fault or damage that requires replacement. Plug replacement does not automatically require new coils, and mileage alone does not prove a coil has failed.
Straightforward four-cylinder work is often under two hours after parts confirmation. Diagnosis, five- or six-cylinder access, damaged threads or seized components can extend the work; confirm timing after assessment.
Operating conditions and engine modifications can affect maintenance needs, but Dubai use does not establish one replacement interval for all engines. Follow the applicable schedule and investigate misfires or contamination promptly.
Tell us whether the plugs are due or the engine is misfiring. The year and service history help if known. We confirm the correct set and fitted price before replacement.
