What needs checking?

Similar symptoms can come from tyres, drop links, strut mounts, steering joints or brakes. A noise alone does not identify the arm.

Noise / movement

Knocks or creaks

  • Clunk over bumps or on drive take-up
  • Squeak as the suspension moves
  • Movement reported in a bush or joint
Steering / tyres

Wandering or uneven wear

  • Steering feels vague or changes under load
  • Pulling or an off-centre steering wheel
  • One tyre edge wears faster
Impact / visible damage

Bent arm or split bush

  • Concern after a kerb or pothole strike
  • Cracked, separated or leaking hydraulic bush
  • Damaged arm, mount or ball-joint boot
Severe looseness, wheel displacement or sudden instability? Stop safely and arrange suitable recovery assistance. A damaged wheel-locating component needs assessment before further driving.
Keep what is serviceable

Arm, bush or joint?

We inspect the metal arm, mounting points, bush movement and joint condition together. That finding determines the proposed work.

01
Sound arm · worn bush

Replace the serviceable bush

A separate control-arm bush can be replaced when the arm, bore and mounting points remain sound. Match the specified rubber or hydraulic design, then follow the correct pressing and orientation procedure. Compare the complete fitted cost with a replacement arm; the smaller part is not always the cheaper job.

02
Separate joint · confirmed wear

Replace the ball joint

Where the joint is replaceable on its own, a sound arm may remain. An integrated joint or several worn parts changes the choice.

03
Damage · combined wear

Replace the complete arm

A bent, cracked or otherwise unsuitable arm needs replacement. A complete assembly can also be sensible when its bushes and joint are worn.

One side or both? Inspect the opposite side too. Replace it when its condition or the applicable procedure justifies the work; one faulty arm does not automatically require every suspension arm.
Anti-roll bar or subframe bushes Different locations need different work. See suspension and mounting checks.
Differential mounting bushes Driveline mount movement needs differential and drivetrain assessment, separate from a wheel-locating arm.
Shifter or selector bushes A loose gear lever concerns the selector mechanism. See gearbox and gear-selection repairs.

Fitment before ordering

The correct arm and parts

VIN, production version, axle, left/right position and suspension specification identify the replacement. A similar-looking wishbone is not enough.

01

Genuine Volkswagen

A VW-branded arm or repair component matched to the vehicle and position.

02

Suitable OEM option

A named supplier assembly or component checked for fit and specification, where available.

Know what the assembly includes: some arms come with bushes and a joint; others require separate items. The quote lists the supplied assembly, fitting parts and applicable cover.
Front and rear are different

Which suspension arm?

Golf, Jetta, Beetle, Passat, Tiguan and Touareg versions can require different parts and work. The VIN and inspection narrow the choice.

Front control arms

Position
Lower wishbones, upper arms or tension links, depending on the fitted suspension.
Inspect
Bush separation, joint play, impact damage, mounting points and related steering parts.
Match
Exact side and arm position; do not assume every model uses the same layout.

Rear suspension arms

Position
Lateral links, toe links, trailing arms or upper/lower arms where fitted.
Inspect
Bush movement, damage, tyre wear and the relevant wheel-geometry relationship.
Match
Axle design, production version and specified replacement procedure.
A control arm locates the wheel and carries suspension forces. Its bushes allow controlled movement; the ball joint allows articulation. Springs and dampers have different jobs. Broader ride or multiple-component faults belong in suspension diagnosis.
Details that affect the result

Fit it to the right procedure

Correct parts need correct installation. We follow the repair information for the fitted suspension rather than a universal torque or sequence.

Mounts

Assess the arm, brackets and nearby parts for damage.

Fasteners

Use replacement bolts and nuts where the procedure requires them.

Bush position

Tighten bonded-rubber pivots in the specified loaded position.

Final checks

Review clearances, joints, wheel fixing and the repaired complaint.

Repair first · then measure

Alignment after replacement

Check wheel geometry after the repair. Worn or bent components must be addressed before alignment can give a useful result.

01 / MEASURE

Correct vehicle setup

Use the fitted variant, specified ride height and loading conditions for measurement.

02 / ADJUST

Available geometry points

Review toe, camber and caster as relevant. Not every angle has a routine adjustment.

03 / CENTRE

Steering and setup

Check steering centring and any required electronic procedures for the vehicle.

04 / VERIFY

Readings and road check

Review the geometry result and carry out an appropriate safe driving check.

Alignment cannot straighten a bent arm or remove joint play. Our wheel alignment service explains the separate front and four-wheel guides. The quotation identifies the geometry work and its charge alongside the arm repair.

Control-arm FAQs

How much is Volkswagen control-arm replacement in Dubai?

Use AED 900–1,800 as an indicative guide for one control arm on one side, consistent with our suspension service guide. It is not a pair or a full multi-link kit price. Model, arm position, parts choice, assembly contents and fitting work affect the quotation. Bush-only work, a separate ball joint and alignment are identified individually.

Can you replace the bush instead of the complete control arm?

Yes, where the bush is separately available and the arm, bore and surrounding components remain suitable. Pressing and correct orientation can add labour, so compare the full job with a complete assembly. A bent or cracked arm cannot be put right by fitting a new bush. The inspection determines the appropriate option.

Is the ball joint included with a new control arm?

It depends on the assembly. Some arms incorporate the joint and bushes; others require separate components. We identify the exact part and list what is supplied. A worn joint does not automatically mean replacing a sound arm if the vehicle design allows a separate repair.

Do both control arms need replacing together?

Not automatically. We inspect the opposite side and relevant neighbouring parts, then recommend work based on condition and the applicable procedure. Similar wear may justify a pair, but a single damaged arm does not by itself justify replacing a complete set. The quotation identifies the quantity and reason.

Do I need wheel alignment after replacing a control arm?

Wheel geometry should be checked after the repair and adjusted at the permitted points as needed. Arm position, suspension design and any disturbed mounting points affect the work. Alignment cannot compensate for a loose joint or bent component. Front and four-wheel alignment have separate indicative guides; the repair quote states what geometry work is included.

Can I keep driving with a worn control arm?

A confirmed suspension defect needs prompt professional assessment. Severe looseness, sudden instability, a displaced wheel or impact damage is a reason to stop safely and arrange suitable recovery. A noise alone does not identify the defect or establish that driving is safe. Tell us what changed and share any inspection report before moving the vehicle.

Can worn bushes cause vibration when braking?

They can contribute to movement under load, but braking vibration can also involve brakes, tyres, wheels or other suspension parts. Describe when the vibration occurs and whether you feel it through the steering wheel or body. We assess the relevant components rather than replacing an arm from that symptom alone.

What is the difference between a control arm, wishbone and suspension arm?

These names often refer to wheel-locating suspension links. A wishbone commonly describes a triangular arm; front and rear systems can use several differently shaped links. Bushes attach or isolate the arm at its pivots, while a ball joint allows articulation where fitted. The exact axle and arm position matter when ordering parts.

How long will replacement take and what warranty applies?

Timing depends on access, corrosion or seized fasteners, bush pressing, parts availability and alignment work. A simple arm swap differs from impact-damage repair. The quotation gives the completion plan and applicable parts/workmanship terms before approval. Access, parts and the selected assembly determine those terms.

What should I send before arranging an assessment?

Send model, year, mileage, VIN where available, affected side if known and a short description of the symptom. Include any existing inspection finding or photos of damage; a photo alone cannot confirm joint play. Our independent workshop is in Al Quoz 4, Dubai, open Monday–Saturday, 9 am–7 pm.
