Rear differential repair
AED1,500+Starting guide for suitable repair work. Seal access, bearing or gear damage and the vehicle specification change the cost.
Whining, an oil leak or a loss of rear-wheel drive? Our independent Volkswagen workshop in Al Quoz 4, Dubai, diagnoses differential, Haldex and transfer-box faults, then quotes the repair before work starts.

The failed component and condition of the unit determine the work. These guides help with budgeting; your written quote sets the total.
Starting guide for suitable repair work. Seal access, bearing or gear damage and the vehicle specification change the cost.
Indicative guide: AED 3,000–6,000. Exact unit, parts choice and required work affect the quotation.
See transfer-box optionsOil service, pump repair and coupling replacement have different scopes.
Quoted for your model and findingsThese symptoms guide the assessment; none alone proves the differential needs replacing.
A noisy rear end can involve tyres, a wheel bearing or a shaft. An AWD code can involve wiring or supply as well as the coupling.
Compare acceleration, overrun, road speed and turning when a safe road test is appropriate.
Locate the source; inspect level, condition and contamination using the correct unit procedure.
Check relevant AWD, ABS and gearbox information, then test what the findings indicate.
Inspect tyre specification and wear, bearings, shafts, mounts and couplings before condemning a unit.

On applicable 4MOTION models, an electronically controlled multi-plate coupling regulates drive to the rear axle. Its service is separate from a differential oil change.
Identify the generation, specified fluid and required service items. Follow the vehicle schedule and service history.
For a rear-drive fault, assess codes, power supply, connections and pump operation before proposing a pump or coupling.
Filter, pump-screen access and basic settings depend on the assembly and procedure; there is no universal filter package.
Model name or badge alone is not enough. VIN, year, drivetrain code and production version establish the correct work.
A leak, bearing noise or binding needs the correct component identified first. Some transverse layouts use an angle or bevel drive; Touareg transfer systems differ.
Suitable when the source is confirmed and the housing, bearings and gears remain serviceable.
Inspect wear and contamination before deciding whether repair parts and a viable rebuild are available.
Consider replacement where damage or parts availability makes repair unsuitable. Match ratio, part revision and drive configuration.
The front differential may be integrated with the gearbox. The rear final drive and AWD coupling can sit together but require different repairs.
VIN, ratio and part revision before ordering.
Condition decides repair versus replacement.
Correct oil, quantity and fill procedure.
Required setup, leak check and safe road test.
The completion plan depends on access, strip-down, parts supply and the repairs you approve.
Describe when it happens and share service history. We identify the fault and explain any further inspection.
Finding and proposed workReview the parts route, labour, fluids, charges and applicable terms before repair starts.
Your approval comes firstReview the relevant leak, noise, drive operation and fault checks after the agreed work.
Invoice and follow-up advice
Volkswagen-specific diagnostics, genuine or OEM parts where suitable, and a written quote before approved work.
Separate a leak, mechanical wear and an AWD-control fault.
Know which repair or assembly the quotation includes.
Workshop open Monday–Saturday, 9 am–7 pm. Contact us to arrange assessment.
The indicative rear differential repair guide starts at AED 1,500. It is not a universal price for rebuilding or replacing a complete unit. Model, internal damage, access and the required parts and fluids determine the quotation. Transfer-case replacement has a separate indicative guide of AED 3,000–6,000; Haldex service and pump work are quoted for the fitted system.
A new whine or leak needs prompt assessment. Severe grinding, binding, a substantial leak or loss of drive is a reason to stop safely and arrange appropriate recovery. A top-up cannot establish that the unit is undamaged. Explain the severity and location before moving the vehicle; the appropriate transport method depends on its drivetrain.
No. On applicable systems, the AWD coupling and final drive use separate oil circuits with their own specified fluids and procedures. A DSG oil service is another task again. The quotation should identify which component is being serviced so that an oil change in one circuit is not mistaken for servicing the whole drivetrain.
Use the schedule and repair information for the vehicle, market and fitted coupling generation, together with its service history. There is no single mileage interval or replaceable filter shared by every Haldex system. We identify the assembly first and specify the applicable fluid and service items. An existing AWD fault needs diagnosis in addition to maintenance.
No. The architecture varies by model and generation. Some Golf R and Tiguan versions use an electronically controlled coupling, while Touareg layouts and later performance rear-drive systems differ. VIN and unit identification are needed before selecting an oil service, pump, transfer box or rear differential.
Only if the checks establish that the pump is the cause. Supply, earth, wiring, control information, fluid condition and the coupling itself can affect operation. A stored fault code is a starting point for testing, not proof that an entire rear differential or pump must be replaced. Required basic settings depend on the exact repair procedure.
Yes, where inspection finds a localised seal defect and the surrounding components are serviceable. Bearing play, a damaged shaft surface or internal contamination can change the repair. We establish the source before quoting; a wet casing does not by itself justify a complete rebuild.
A localised sealing or accessible component fault may be repairable. Internal wear requires an assessment of the housing, gears, bearings and available parts. Where a rebuild is not viable, the quotation identifies a matched replacement and required installation work. A fluid service is maintenance and cannot reverse mechanical damage.
Yes. Tyre noise, wheel-bearing wear, shaft or CV-joint problems and mounts can resemble a differential complaint. Record whether the symptom changes with road speed, acceleration, overrun or turning. Suitable inspection and a safe road test help locate the source before an expensive driveline unit is ordered.
Send model, year, mileage, VIN where available, service history and a photo of any warning or leak. Timing differs between a service, seal repair and a strip-down or replacement. The workshop plan accounts for access and parts supply; the quote records the agreed charges and applicable cover. Our Al Quoz 4 workshop opens Monday–Saturday, 9 am–7 pm.
A whine, leak or AWD warning needs the right checks. Send your VW details and when it happens so we can arrange an assessment.
