Thermostat or housing
AED 700–1,500+
Indicative parts and labour for suitable standalone jobs. Engine access, the supplied housing and parts choice change the total.
Running hot, warming up slowly or losing coolant at the housing? Our independent VW workshop in Al Quoz 4 identifies the fault and fits the thermostat or assembly your engine needs.
Indicative parts-and-labour budget. Combined pump modules and extra work are priced separately below.

Compare the complete job
An accessible separate thermostat and an integrated pump module are different repairs. These Dubai planning estimates help you compare like-for-like quotations.
AED 700–1,500+
Indicative parts and labour for suitable standalone jobs. Engine access, the supplied housing and parts choice change the total.
AED 1,200–2,800
Typical combined-job budget when the engine design and confirmed fault require it. A pump is not an automatic extra on every thermostat repair.
The quote lists the exact components, seals, fitting, coolant, required setup and final checks, with VAT treatment, warranty terms and expected collection time.
These are estimates, not fixed tariffs or two charges to add together. Diagnosis and recovery are agreed separately. Extensive access, damaged pipes, contamination or overheating damage can put the job outside these guides.
Choose the right next step
The pattern helps us plan the checks. A dashboard warning or a coolant stain alone does not prove the thermostat has failed.
Stop safely and switch off. Continued overheating can damage the engine. Keep the coolant cap closed while hot and arrange assistance before further driving.

Replace what has failed
The thermostat controls coolant flow. The housing contains or supports it. Some engines combine cooling components into a larger assembly.
A failed valve or heating element may need a new thermostat. A separate replacement makes sense where the design permits it and the surrounding housing is sound.
A serviceable seal can be renewed on an undamaged component. A cracked, distorted or otherwise unserviceable housing needs replacement; sealant does not restore its structure.
The available parts and condition of the pump, thermostat and adjoining joints determine the practical repair. We explain any combined recommendation before work starts.
For a confirmed circulation or pump fault, see Volkswagen water-pump repair. A working pump is not replaced simply because the thermostat is being changed.
Find the cause before fitting
We distinguish a thermostat that opens incorrectly from an inaccurate reading, an electrical fault or loss elsewhere in the system.
Compare coolant live data from a cold start with operating conditions and appropriate temperature checks. The dashboard gauge alone is not a precise test of thermostat opening.
Inspect the housing, seal, unions and nearby pump. Pressure testing to the vehicle specification can expose a leak; intermittent faults may also need controlled warm checks.
Where a thermostat has an electrical heater or actuator, inspect its supply, connectors and control circuit. A wiring fault and a mechanically stuck valve need different repairs.
Assess coolant level, radiator heat transfer, fan operation and pump circulation as indicated. Air trapped after earlier work can also disturb temperature control.
A P2181 cooling-performance fault can involve the thermostat, coolant-temperature sensor or wiring. Test the readings and circuit before treating the code as a parts list.

Correct fit and specification
Golf, Polo, Jetta, Passat, CC, Tiguan and Touareg engines do not all use one thermostat. Engine code, build specification and the current part reference determine compatibility.
A Volkswagen-branded component matched to the application. The written quote names what is supplied, including whether the thermostat comes alone or in a housing.
A compatible supplier option can be compared where available. Manufacturer, specification and warranty terms matter more than an unqualified “OEM” label.
A wax thermostat responds to heat; some designs add electrical control. We match the correct design rather than selecting by appearance.
Use the fluid specification and dilution applicable to your VW. Pink colour alone does not identify the correct coolant.
Tell us about a pump change, top-ups or additives. An earlier repair, wrong fill or trapped air can change the investigation.
From approval to handover
Correct filling and temperature checks are part of completing cooling work. Installing a new valve alone does not establish that the fault is resolved.
Review the findings, compatible parts and written total. Any additional damage or work discovered during access needs your approval.
Drain as required, gain the necessary access and fit the agreed component with the specified seals and fasteners. Check adjoining connections.
Refill with the correct coolant and follow the engine’s filling and air-removal procedure. Carry out required guided functions or basic settings where applicable.
Check for leaks and verify temperature control and relevant cooling operation. Recheck the level when cool and explain remaining findings at collection.
Access, parts availability and the warm-up/cool-down checks determine collection time. Your quote or invoice states the applicable warranty; old parts are available on request.
Send the model, year and symptoms. A photo of the warning or an existing estimate helps; engine or VIN details may be requested to match parts.
Before you book
Practical answers about cost, coolant and the right repair.
Standalone thermostat or housing work has an indicative parts-and-labour budget of AED 700–1,500+. Typical combined pump/thermostat work is AED 1,200–2,800. These are alternative job guides, not cumulative charges. The written quote identifies parts, coolant, fitting, checks, extras and VAT treatment; diagnosis and recovery are agreed separately.
A red coolant warning, steam or rising temperature means stop safely, switch off and arrange assistance. Keep the hot coolant cap closed. Slow warm-up also needs assessment, but it is a different situation from active overheating. Follow your vehicle’s warning instructions and describe the symptoms before travelling.
Not automatically. Some engines permit a separate thermostat or housing replacement; others use assemblies whose supplied parts and condition change the practical repair. We identify the failed component and explain a combined replacement if it is needed.
Only if the leak comes from the component being replaced or its renewed seal. A cracked housing, damaged hose, nearby pump or radiator leak can need different work. Finding the source prevents replacing a working thermostat while the coolant loss continues.
No. The thermostat controls coolant flow; the sensor reports temperature. An inaccurate sensor signal or damaged wiring can resemble a thermostat problem. Compare live readings, warm-up behaviour and the relevant electrical checks before choosing the repair.
There is no universal coding requirement. The engine and component determine whether guided filling, bleeding, actuator checks or basic settings are needed. Correct coolant filling and verification still matter on a conventional mechanical thermostat.
There is no single replacement mileage for every Volkswagen thermostat. Follow applicable vehicle maintenance guidance and assess faults when symptoms appear. Removing the thermostat permanently or choosing a lower opening temperature is not a substitute for repairing the cause of overheating.
Engine access, the required assembly, parts availability and filling/testing affect the time. Agree the collection estimate after assessment. The written quote or invoice states the applicable parts and repair warranty, so you can compare the actual terms before approving work.
