VW Caddy Gearbox Replacement in Dubai

Caddy slipping out of gear, jerking in traffic or showing a gearbox warning? Our independent Volkswagen workshop in Al Quoz 4 diagnoses manual, DSG and automatic Caddy gearboxes first, then quotes the repair, rebuild or replacement that actually fits the fault.

Gearbox replacement from AED 6,500 fitted with a tested used unit. A clutch, seal or control fault may need a targeted repair instead. The diagnosis determines the options. Indicative Dubai budgets.

Caddy gearbox prices in Dubai

These are indicative budgets at an independent specialist. Your written quote lists parts, labour and VAT for your exact van before we start.

ItemGuide price
Gearbox diagnosisRoad test, codes and live dataAED 150 to 300
Gearbox fluid serviceApplicable units only; adaptations if required by the procedureAED 800 to 1,500
Used gearbox, fitted guideUnit plus removal and fitting allowanceAED 6,500 to 12,500
Rebuilt gearbox, fitted guideUnit plus removal and fitting allowanceAED 8,500 to 15,500
New gearbox, fitted guideUnit plus removal and fitting allowanceAED 12,000 to 21,500

The fitted guides already include the removal and fitting allowance; do not add it again. The written quote confirms fluid, filter, seals, setup, testing and VAT. Initial diagnosis, recovery, clutch/flywheel work or other repairs are separate unless explicitly included. A fluid service cannot repair worn internals. Availability and supplier coverage are confirmed for the actual unit; a price guide is not a promise of stock or warranty. Compare the used-unit condition report, documented rebuild work, core/exchange conditions and written parts/labour coverage before approving an option.

Identify the unit before choosing parts

Which gearbox does your Caddy have?

Engine, model year and original market affect the transmission fitted. The installed gearbox code confirms compatibility; the number of gears alone does not identify the clutch type.

Manual

5- or 6-speed versions

Selected petrol and diesel applications.

What needs checking

Assess clutch operation, bearing noise, gear selection and synchro condition.

Earlier dry DSG

Selected 7-speed applications

Some earlier TSI versions; confirm the actual code.

What needs checking

Investigate take-off judder, low-speed shifts and control faults.

Wet DSG

Selected 6-speed applications

Found on applicable TDI Caddy 3 and 4 versions.

What needs checking

Check shift, clutch and hydraulic operation, with the appropriate fluid and service history.

Later DSG

Selected 7-speed applications

Later petrol and TDI combinations vary by market.

What needs checking

Confirm the installed clutch, control and fluid system. Seven speeds does not establish a dry-clutch unit.

Other variants

Automatic or hybrid applications

Imported and later market-specific versions.

What needs checking

Identify the actual drivetrain. Hybrid applications need their own assessment.

Start with your year, engine and symptoms

That is enough to enquire. Vehicle information and the fitted gearbox code confirm the unit before parts are ordered; document photos are optional.

Describe the change in drive, sound or shifting

Signs your Caddy gearbox needs attention

Clutches, mounts, driveshafts, controls and gearbox internals can cause similar complaints. Test the affected system before choosing repair or replacement.

Drive

Revs rise but the van does not pull

Slip may be more noticeable uphill or under load. Assess clutch operation and the fitted transmission before selecting parts.

Shifts

Jerky, delayed or harsh engagement

Judder, clunks or a pause before Drive engages need checks of controls, clutch operation, mounts and fluid level where applicable.

Noise

Grinding, whining or clunking

Record whether it changes with speed, gear or selection. Bearings, synchros, differential or external driveline parts may need inspection.

Warnings

Flashing gear display or limp mode

Read stored faults and available live data. A warning identifies a need for diagnosis, not an automatic gearbox replacement.

Leaks

Drips or a burning smell

Locate the source and check the system condition. Fluid colour alone does not establish where a leak originates.

Inspection findings

Debris found in the oil

Assess the type and quantity alongside noise, slip and other findings before recommending internal work.

Loss of drive, severe slipping or a burning smell?

Stop somewhere safe and call to discuss assessment or recovery before continuing. Do not road-test a van that cannot be driven safely.

Compare the confirmed work and total downtime

Repair, rebuild or replace?

The findings, van condition, mileage and how you use the Caddy guide the choice. Compare parts, fitting, required setup, testing and written terms across the suitable options.

A confirmed component fault

Targeted repair

Clutch, mechatronic, seal or sensor work may be suitable when diagnosis isolates the cause. Fluid maintenance is a separate scope.

Ask before approvalWhat failed, and which tests support the proposed repair?
Internal wear that can be repaired

Rebuild your gearbox

Inspect the original unit and define which worn or damaged internals need renewal. Feasibility and total cost depend on the findings.

Ask before approvalWhat will be renewed, and what condition or damage could change the quote?
Comparing an alternative assembly

Compatible used unit

Confirm the gearbox code, condition and provenance before accepting a used replacement. Include fitting and any required setup in the comparison.

Ask before approvalWhat is known about the supplied unit, and what written coverage applies?
Comparing supply, cost and terms

New replacement

A new unit may be an option when the confirmed repair scope and availability justify it. Supplier coverage and the complete fitted total should be clear.

Ask before approvalWhen is it available, and what parts and labour terms are included?

Compare a repair with replacement before deciding

We explain the confirmed fault and the suitable work scopes. Ask about the assessment charge and expected downtime.

From diagnosis to handover

How we replace a Caddy gearbox

Replacement follows evidence of the fault and agreement on the matched unit. The process includes the required fluid, setup and verification for your transmission.

  1. Diagnose the cause

Review faults and live data, fluid condition and leaks. Check the clutch, mounts and driveline, with a road test only where safe.

  2. Agree the work and quote

Compare the suitable repair, rebuild, used or new options. State parts, labour, VAT and the expected downtime before approval.

  3. Remove and fit the matched unit

Confirm compatibility against the installed gearbox code. Inspect mounts, driveshaft seals and related fittings; agree extra work before proceeding.

  4. Fill and set up correctly

Use the specified fluid and filling procedure. Coding, software, basic settings or clutch adaptation apply only where the actual unit and repair require them.

  5. Verify before handover

Check engagement, shifts and leaks under conditions appropriate to the repair. Review the completed work and any follow-up requirements.

Service information from Volkswagen Repair Dubai, operated by AMF AUTO SERVICES LLC at Warehouse 39, Al Quoz 4, Dubai. Updated 21 October 2026. About our workshop.

How much does a VW Caddy gearbox replacement cost in Dubai?

Fitted, a tested used gearbox usually costs AED 6,500 to 12,500, a rebuilt unit AED 8,500 to 15,500 and a new gearbox AED 12,000 to 21,500. These guides include a removal and fitting allowance. The quote confirms fluid, seals, setup, testing and VAT; diagnosis and related repairs are separate unless included. A targeted repair may be appropriate once the fault is established.

Can a Caddy DSG be repaired instead of replaced?

A confirmed clutch, mechatronic, sensor or seal fault may be repairable. Judder and codes alone do not prove which part is faulty, and an adaptation reset does not repair mechanical wear. Internal damage must be assessed before recommending a rebuild or replacement.

How long does a Caddy gearbox replacement take?

Allow a planning guide of two to four working days once the correct parts are available; rebuilding, imports or additional damage can extend this. We give a completion estimate with the quote and update you if anything changes.

Does the Caddy DSG need a fluid change?

Follow the service schedule for the actual gearbox code and original market. Wet and dry clutch DSG units have different fluid circuits and maintenance requirements. Do not apply a blanket interval or assume every seven-speed unit is dry clutch. Judder needs diagnosis rather than an automatic fluid change or adaptation reset.

Is a used gearbox a good idea?

A compatible used unit can reduce initial cost, but compare its condition, documented checks, provenance and supplier terms with a rebuild or new unit. Confirm compatibility, any exchange/core conditions, and parts and labour coverage in writing; low mileage or a warranty should not be assumed.

Can I keep driving with a slipping gearbox?

Avoid continuing to drive with slipping or loss of drive. Stop safely and arrange assistance for severe judder, grinding, a significant leak, burning smell or a gearbox warning affecting control. We cannot confirm driving safety from symptoms alone.
