Starter motor
Battery is healthy and lights stay bright, but the engine clicks once, grinds or does not turn. Heat under the bonnet in summer wears its solenoid and brushes.
Test. Voltage drop at the starterJetta clicking when you turn the key, cranking slowly or doing nothing at all? We test the battery, cables and starter in our Al Quoz 4 workshop first, then replace the starter motor only if it is really the cause.
Starter motor AED 1,000 to 1,800 plus fitting AED 350 to 700. Indicative Dubai prices. Usually done the same day.

A failing VW Jetta starter shows as one loud click, grinding or slow cranking with a healthy battery. In our Al Quoz 4 workshop we test the battery, cables and starter circuit first. A new starter costs about AED 1,000 to 1,800, plus AED 350 to 700 to fit, and is usually done the same day.
Match the symptom to the likely cause. A starter rarely fails without warning.
| What happens | Likely cause | What we test |
|---|---|---|
| One loud click, no crank | Starter solenoid or worn starter motor | Voltage at the starter while cranking |
| Rapid clicking | Weak or flat battery, poor connection | Battery load test and terminals |
| Slow, laboured cranking | Weak battery or a starter drawing too much current | Battery test and starter current draw |
| Grinding on start | Starter gear not engaging the flywheel cleanly | Starter drive and flywheel teeth |
| Starter keeps running after start | Sticking solenoid or relay, stop and call us | Solenoid and control circuit |
| Nothing at all, lights work | Starter, relay, ignition switch or gear selector signal | Control circuit and fault codes |

These three get confused all the time. Testing all three takes minutes and stops you paying for the wrong part.
Battery is healthy and lights stay bright, but the engine clicks once, grinds or does not turn. Heat under the bonnet in summer wears its solenoid and brushes.
Test. Voltage drop at the starterRapid clicking, dim lights while cranking, or a car that starts fine after a jump. UAE heat often ends battery life in two to three years. See Jetta battery.
Test. Battery load and healthThe car starts after a jump but the battery keeps going flat, often with a battery light while driving. See Jetta alternator.
Test. Charging voltage under loadOn most Jettas the starter sits low at the front of the gearbox. We prove it is faulty first, then fit, reset and test, so you leave with a car that starts every time.

Battery, cables, earths and the starter circuit are checked so we know the starter is really the cause.
The battery is disconnected and the area around the starter is cleared for access.
OEM or premium aftermarket starter fitted with clean, tight connections and the flywheel teeth inspected.
Battery registered where needed, fault codes cleared and repeated hot and cold start tests done.

| Item | Guide price |

| Starting system testBattery, cables and starter | Included with the job |
| Premium aftermarket starter | AED 1,000 to 1,600 |
| OEM starter motor | AED 1,400 to 1,800 |
| Fitting labour | AED 350 to 700 |
Guide prices only. Engine and gearbox layout change the labour time. Extra work is only done after you approve it.

A weak battery makes the starter work harder. Test it every service.
Do not crank for more than a few seconds at a time. Wait between attempts.
Lower under bonnet heat is easier on the solenoid and wiring.
A grinding start can damage the flywheel if it is ignored.
Then the fault is in the circuit that tells the starter to turn. We read fault codes and check the start signal before we order any part. For the full picture on all models, see our Volkswagen starter motor guide.
Straight answers before you book in.

A premium aftermarket starter is about AED 1,000 to 1,600 and an OEM starter AED 1,400 to 1,800, plus AED 350 to 700 for fitting.
Rapid clicking and dim lights usually mean the battery. A single loud click or grinding with bright lights usually means the starter. A quick test of both tells you for sure.
It may start some days and not others, so you risk being stranded. If the starter keeps running after the engine starts, stop and call us, as it can damage the flywheel.
Usually two to three hours including testing, so most cars are ready the same day.
Yes. If the dashboard flickers, or nothing happens while the lights work, the ignition switch or its wiring can stop the start signal reaching the starter. We test the starter control circuit and read fault codes before we replace anything.
Both. A premium aftermarket starter is about AED 1,000 to 1,600 and an OEM starter about AED 1,400 to 1,800. Your written quote shows the options, so you can choose before we start any work.
