AC leak test and recharge
The selected test and charge depend on the actual system. Do not repeatedly recharge a known leaking system; repair its confirmed source.
AED 250 to 450Polo AC losing its cold within days of a recharge, a musty smell from the vents or water on the passenger floor? These symptoms can have different causes; a leak elsewhere, moisture, a drain problem or heater-circuit fault must also be considered. We prove the leak first at our Al Quoz 4 workshop, then replace the evaporator, recharge the system and test the vent temperature before you collect.
Evaporator replacement AED 1,800 to 2,500. Indicative Dubai price for the Polo Mk5 and Mk6. The recharge and any seals are listed on the same written quote.

An evaporator is replaced when testing establishes a fault that needs replacement. Fast refrigerant loss can occur elsewhere, and musty smells alone usually call for moisture, drain and cabin-filter checks. Appropriate leak tests identify the source before dashboard work is quoted. A leak test and recharge is AED 250 to 450 and evaporator replacement is AED 1,800 to 2,500, on a written quote.
Indicative guides for the stated work. The complete quote identifies the evaporator brand, fitting, seals, refrigerant recovery and recharge, oil allowance, VAT and any separate diagnosis or extra components. Refrigerant type and required quantity can change the recharge price.
The selected test and charge depend on the actual system. Do not repeatedly recharge a known leaking system; repair its confirmed source.
AED 250 to 450Dashboard removal, new evaporator and seals, refit and system test.
AED 1,800 to 2,500Expansion valve, drier or a cabin filter, only when the tests show they are needed.
Quoted after diagnosisMany Polo AC faults feel the same from the driver seat. Symptoms guide the checks; they do not identify a failed component by themselves.
These symptoms need different checks before an evaporator is recommended.
Airflow, refrigerant charge and AC controls can produce similar complaints.
Tell us when the AC loses its cold, whether it was recently recharged and any smell or water you notice. We explain the checks before quoting the repair.
It is the part that actually makes the cabin air cold, and it sits in the hardest place to reach.
Inside the heater box, behind the dashboard. Access may require dashboard and heater-box removal. The required procedure depends on the fitted version and explains much of the labor.
Corrosion or physical damage can affect the core. Moisture and debris can also cause odours or drain problems without a refrigerant leak; testing distinguishes these faults.
New O rings and seals, and the expansion valve or drier when the test shows they are contaminated or worn.
Evaporator fitment, refrigerant and oil requirements vary by production version and market. We identify the actual system before ordering or charging.
| Polo | Common engines | Refrigerant | What we see most |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mk5, 2010 to 2017 | 1.6 and 1.4 petrol, 1.4 TSI on some trims | R134a on most UAE cars | Evaporator leaks on high mileage cars and blocked drains. |
| Mk6, 2018 onwards | 1.6 petrol, 1.0 and 1.4 TSI depending on market | R134a or R1234yf, depending on year and market | Musty smells, cabin filter neglect and condenser stone damage. |
| Polo GTI | 1.4, 1.8 and 2.0 TSI | Depends on year and market | Confirm the engine, body and AC specification; the GTI badge alone does not establish leak risk. |
Check the bonnet label. The sticker under the bonnet shows the refrigerant type and the exact gas weight for your Polo. We read it before any recharge and use the matching gas and oil.
Most cars are ready the same day when the part is in stock.

Typically AED 1,800 to 2,500, depending on the year and the parts needed. The refrigerant recharge and any seals or expansion valve are listed on the same written quote before work starts.
The existing fitting estimate is four to six hours for a straightforward quoted application after diagnosis and parts confirmation. Dashboard and heater-box access depend on the actual version; additional faults or access difficulties can extend the job.
We test the system using suitable methods and assess the evaporator area along with the condenser, pipes and connections. Electronic detection or compatible dye at an accessible drain or vent can help, but no single pressure reading or negative test settles every case. Dashboard work is quoted only when the findings justify it.
Usually mould growing on the evaporator and a dirty cabin filter. A new filter and an evaporator cleaning treatment often fix it. Replacement depends on confirmed damage or an unserviceable fault, rather than odor alone.
Avoid using an AC system known to be losing refrigerant and arrange diagnosis. Driving suitability depends on the whole vehicle, visibility and symptoms; stop safely for smoke, a burning smell or other serious warnings. Do not assume every cooling or cabin-odor problem is safe to continue with.
Most older Polos use R134a, and some newer Polos use R1234yf, depending on the year and market. Check the bonnet label, which shows the gas type and weight. We use the matching gas and oil.
Tell us how the cooling changes and whether there is a smell or wet carpet; the year is helpful if known. We explain the next checks and guide price before dashboard work is approved.
